Case workers, therapy teams?

I’ve never had anything besides a pdoc. Are these support people part of your national healthcare? And where do you live?

In the US, you can get a support team through county mental health if you have Medicaid. Otherwise you can get a pdoc and therapist, and some private insurances also cover group therapy

The only disability benefits I get in the us is free hospital care. And a check

Maybe it’s just my state that gets that stuff then. Do you have Medicaid?

I am in South Carolina and I go to the mental health center ran by the Department of Mental Health. I have a pdoc and a therapist. I have never had a case manager, although I think my therapist functions that way also, overseeing my case.

I got a letter saying I had Medicare or Medicare but it only covered hospital. I live in Portugal anyways so it don’t matter. I can’t even speak the language so forget support

My state, Massachusetts has a department of mental health that I get services through.

My state, NY, has help for Medicaid and other patients through the county. I have a nurse, therapist, case worker, and a Pdoc.

Wow :open_mouth: 151515115161

@Moonwalker what brought you to Portugal?

I was living in manhattan for 14 years. Portugal seemed like a better place to try and have a child, it’s also my wife’s homeland. It did work out as planned but I’m horrible with language

I live in Canada and have never taken part of any extended support programs they have

Oh wow! It’s too bad you can’t speak the language! :frowning:

I live in the UK. My case worker is my nurse. She only sees me once a month now but it used to be once a week.

I also have my psychiatrist that I see annually or if I am unwell. It seems to work well.

When I lived in the USA I had government medical and I had county hospital care. I was part of a day program. I went 3 times a week. I had a social worker there and a psychiatrist. I also attended various groups. I could also play pool and ping pong and hang out there. That’s how it worked there.

I have a home guide, which is kind of like a social worker who visits me and helps me structure my life, keep my apartment clean, and takes me outside for walk&talks.
I also see a psych nurse fairly regularly, who talks to the pdoc if I need changes in my meds. She makes sure my symptoms are managed and I’m well.

I have a case manager who manages my case.

And I have a friend whom I’ve recently signed a paper for, stating that he’s allowed to attend meetings and speak on my behalf because I just can’t manage that at the moment. He also helps me contact my case manager, and sometimes encourages me to talk to the Pnurse if I’m having symptoms.

I don’t need health insurance because healthcare is free here, and I have a list of numbers to call if my mental health declines, all free of charge.

Denmark is great
Sure, there’s room for improvement, but I like that you can get all the help you need, and all you have to do is pay for the meds, which don’t cost much thanks to a system where you get a bigger discount the more you spend on prescription meds in a year.
