Anyone else have this problem? When I don’t take my ativan I sleep horribly. My doctor says no worry no addiction but I disagree
I believed Ativan was highly addicting. Just goes to show ya how different people are.
It’s a double edged sword but good sleep can be a great thing for your mental health! Benzo’s are addictive but it’s probably the lesser of two evils taking them to help you get to sleep!
I used xanax for years for anxiety and sleep and now don’t need it. It took me a long time to come off them but I was in a good place in my life to do it! I’d suggest talking over the situation with your psydoc. You might gain some better insight as to why he isn’t worried!
When you take meds to get to sleep regularly, your brain becomes dependent on these meds to sleep.
I’ve never been on a sleep med that quitting it didn’t give me severe insomnia for some time after. Some people experience weeks, to even months of severe insomnia before their brain gets back to its initial sleep cycle.
Also even if you are not psychologically addicted to the med, that doesn’t mean your brain hasn’t become dependent on using it to sleep. Sometimes I feel doctors don’t acknowledge these things or else just expect you to stay on these sleep meds for eternity so don’t see it as a problem. Unfortunately numerous sleep meds come w bad effects w long term use.
