Can you tell if someone is mentally ill by the look in their face like facial expressions?

I remember being at a bar with friends where a bartender was acting weird, she had no facial expressions and seemed like a zombie. She seemed like the ppl I was with in mental hospital. She must be on some psych meds killing her emotions. I feel the same as her now on Risperdal. I was on Abilify back then and had some emotions.

My brothers told me I smile and laugh much less on Risperdal than on Abilify.

Fk these psych meds seriously.

Facial expressions of emotions and schizophrenia: a review - PubMed.

It is generally agreed that schizophrenia patients show a markedly reduced ability to perceive and express facial emotions. Previous studies have shown, however, that such deficits are emotion-specific in schizophrenia and not generalized

My expressions are pretty normal, but I’ve heard that with sz people can be pretty expressionless in some cases.

Some, but not all, of that article describes me. I definitely have a mild case of the flat effect.

While out with a friend wee ran into two guys he knew. I sensed something was off about one guy. Made a guess that this guy has some mental health problem. That was right. My friend told me that guy and one of his sibling struggle with depression likely.

Now I am worried if I look like that to others, emotionless and flat. They probably think I am mentally ill.

People just think I’m fun and energetic as long as they think I’m 100% sane.

The minute someone becomes aware of my mood issues, every laugh and smile becomes a symptom. Well, maybe not to everybody, but it sure feels like that.

Dude, what if they already do so? Or even know about it?
Initially I thought only my immediate family members knew about my illness. Turns out more people did. They never brought it up.
Mental illnesses have enough stigma and are difficult enough to grasp even for doctors that normies won’t bring this topic up that easily.
There are some who bring up this topic. Most of the time they are real insensitive ■■■■■ and ■■■■■■■. They are jerks to all people not just mentally ill ones.

When I see people with glaring or absent eyes, I think they must be mentally ill. Could be wrong but I play the guessing game. It’s fun!
