I read that caffeine decrease Clozapine metabolism.
The article posted was only about one case and they were asking for more studies to clarify that possible conclusion of extreme toxicity. I suggest maybe asking your doctor and researching more.
@GrayBear @cdwithdcs Did your pdoc prescribed Clozapine fast? Mine said she has to do paperwork as its a special regualted and restricted medication.
“These results suggest that caffeine in daily doses of 400–1000 mg inhibits the metabolism of clozapine to an extent that might be clinically significant in certain individuals.”
I take 400mg sometimes a bit more. I guess I don’t have to worry.
I keep reading that Clozapine is the king of antipsychotics and most effective lol
I’ve read and been told by pdocs the same thing. But there are a lot of restrictions on it, possible serious side effects, and monthly blood tests. They wanted to put me on it but I refused. I would consider it if I was desperate and nothing else worked, but I wanted to try other meds before that one.
But you’ve been mentioning your negative symptoms ever since I joined this forum so it may be a good alternative for you…I guess if it doesn’t work you can reinstate your current meds, and if it does work that that would be a great thing.
I am not sure. I was prescribed when i was in the hospital.
Hmm I don’t remember. I’ll ask my fiancée when I talk to her next.
She wasn’t sure, @Aziz. Sorry.
I don’t know, but I know caffeine especially energy drinks and maybe even smoking cigarettes (nicotine) reduces the effectiveness of meds and scrambles my brain and stuff.
My pdoc only informed me about the interaction with smoking. Didn’t know about coffee. I wouldn’t worry too much about it!
