Can two medicine keep each other from working

This might sound not that smart, but I’m taking 7.5mg of abilify, and 300mg of clozapine. I’m begining to think that the clozapine is interacting with the abilify and keeping it from working. Is there anybody that takes or taken 2 antipsychotics and they didn’t work together.

7.5mg Abilify is below the minimum therapeutic dose, maybe that’s why you don’t feel an effect.
I don’t know if the two drugs interact with one another, but I’m sure there are some pharmaceutical databases where you can check. I’d link you to one, but the only one I know of is in Danish.

It may not be an interaction but just the way you personally react to the med. That’s a really low dose of abilify, it could just not be affecting you because of that or maybe it’s just not a good med for you.

I took abilify a long time ago and it was the best antipsychotic I have ever tried. But I got side effects and i had to stop, so I know that abilify works for me. I’m also taking Clozapine so that allowed me to take a low dose of abilify this time. The first time I took abililfy I wasn’t on clozapine so the situation was different. I had to take a higher dose of abilify because i wasn’t on clozapine.

All I know is that Sarcosine and Clozapine don’t mix well because they both affect the NMDA receptors. So I’m pretty sure there are meds that cancel each other out. Ask your pdoc for more info.

I could ask the same question, Jake. I am on lithium and Zyprexa. The first is supposed to lift me, the Zyprexa is supposed to calm me(even put me down). Me too, I don’t know the answer of your question, the docs know it best  . I guess we both need this kind of cocktail. Me, I find that my Zyprexa, after it take in the evenings, puts me really down in a very unpleasant way, so I am worried too… But a lots of people do this cocktail(lifting/sedative) thing I think.

Absolutely, apparenty clozapine and sarcosine cancel eachother out, this has put me in a predicament as i need them both! I have been taking clozapine during the day and 1 dose of sarcosine at night, it is working for now but I am not getting enough clozapine so eventually I will have to start doing something different.

Yes, Tegretol or carbamazepine, keeps AP’s from working. Don’t take them together. Tegretol is used for mood disorder sometimes.
