Can I have schizophrenia?

To start, I’m only 16 years old. When I was younger, I heard voices (one male; one female). I don’t remember what they used to say but, they were present too often. I knew they were hallucinations because no one else was there. I also used to feel bugs crawling on my skin quite a lot when there weren’t any bugs. I used to worry everyone was robots and wanted to kill me, even my closest family. I used to feel like I was being watched through pictures, like the people on the photos could see me and were watching as their real selves. I also used to worry that I was under surveillance and hidden cameras were everywhere (especially in my friends houses). I also used to worry the world was fake and only a part of my imagination, I didn’t know if anyone I knew was real or if anything around me was real. I also sometimes used to worry people could read my mind and knew what I was thinking. I also used to have trouble pronouncing words with ar, er, ir, ar, and or. Now, I also have OCD and have had it when all of these symptoms were present. These symptoms went away, but I became depressed, or at least that’s what it feels like. These OCD is still present. My brother has OCD and I think schizophrenia too (it’s pretty obvious). My mom has OCD, too. Could I be schizophrenic? I’m not asking for a diagnosis, just some help.

If I were you, I would try to get an appointment with a psychiatrist and report what you’ve been experiencing to them. Many of those phenomena are common to people with a diagnosis of schizophrenia or related brain disorders, so I encourage you to get yourself checked out.

Yes, you can have mine. I no longer want it.

All jokes aside, you could have schizophrenia. You could also have a brain tumour or some sort of metal poisoning. Only a doctor can tell you for sure.

I think if all of these things are in the past, then I would question. I don’t really have “used to’s” in regards to schizophrenic symptoms. But I’m not sure how that works… Sounds like you’ve got some experience with MI and diagnosis, so you can just approach a current doctor, and/or your mom and get it straightened out. My feeling is that if these things are no longer present, then no need for any diagnosis, but that’s just me. I wish you wellness and happiness :heartpulse:

I agree with @Hedgehog that’s why I asked what are you feeling now

Unless on meds, my symptoms have never gone away for any length of time. If you start having symptoms again - I would go to your regular doctor and talk to them. There are so many things that can cause these symptoms. And from what I am told even normal healthy people will sometimes have symptoms. Only a doctor can fully diagnose you.

Well I was wondering if post-psychotic depression or maybe even residual schizophrenia is now occurring after the what seems like paranoid schizophrenia symptoms went away.

I don’t think it works that way. You really need to talk to a doctor to see what they say. They can go over your full history and symptoms.

For me it has been constant, I haven’t had a break. I have had ups and downs in mood when on and off meds, but my positive symptoms have stayed constant and my negative symptoms have worsened over the years.

Schizophrenia is not a quick cycling illness. You could have bi-polar with psychotic features and that would have cycles. But again that has to be diagnosed by a doctor. None of us here are qualified to diagnose.

I’ve had symptoms practically disappear for about six months before even when off medication, only to see them come back stronger than ever. It is possible that you are just going through a low symptom point in a cycle. Like I said before, I recommend you check in with a psychiatrist.

Thank you but you said six month I haven’t had these symptoms full blown in YEARS. It’s just all strange.
