Bugs have returned

the warmer season means more bugs. yesterday there was a spider about the size of a quarter that had built a web in the toilet bowl. luckily I didn’t sit on it before I saw it.

in june we’ll be swarmed for 2 or 3 weeks with the mayfly because we live right on the water. they will attach themselves to walls or anything dry, you have to spray them off with the hose.

as much as I hate the bugs, I still prefer summers to winters.

That’s horrifying. We have a large variety of bugs here, in the mountains. Since almost everything goes dormant in the winter, it really feels like an invasion in the Spring and summer. I spray insecticide all around the outside of the house at the base and under window sills to try and keep them out, but too many still get inside.

Only thing really stopping me from moving somewhere temperate is the bugs.

That’s also one of the perks of living somewhere cold, like here in Canada, there aren’t many bugs in summer. Just the occasional fly and mosquito, but I’ve only been bitten once so far, which is pretty tame.

I don’t like the swarming creatures. like the mayfly and the cicadas we get every 18 years or so.

… generally I leave the bugs alone, unless they are in the house. then I deal with them. that’s the best I can do is respect them in their element

yeah my dads been spraying too. most of the bugs that get in are no big deal. a few spiders, boxelder bugs, ladybugs, and recently we’ve had ants getting in. I haven’t seen anything else

Ahh. Leave the centipedes alone. I know they’re bitches. But when you have so many legs you’re bound to be a bit crabby.

the place definitely has it worts. i get visions of improving the property and turning it into a picturesque homestead. but the bugs put a damper on the outside life. i’ll probably spray the yard eventually, if things go well, so we can enjoy our time outdoors without seeing so many bugs.

I thought you meant Bugs Bunny.

Wow… where I live, I can have the door open all summer long, even at night. There are barely any mosquitos here. I don’t even get spiders inside my apartment every year. I have to kill a few insects, but it’s not so bad.

My balcony door has been open for days and there’s not a single insect here. Well, maybe a fruit fly somewhere. But I can’t see any right now.

Last year, big nasty ants were entering my apartment at a rate of one every few minutes. It turned out that they were entering through the apartments kitchen exhaust fan opening. I sealed off the fan grille. But you can still pull the grille down an inch or so if you still want to use the fan.

The event was a pain in the butt. I would find one ant, and then get rid of it, and then go back to the couch to watch TV. Moments later I would check the kitchen again and sure enough there was another ant. So I would wait in the kitchen for another ant so I could find out where it got in, and no 2nd ant would show up. So back to the couch I went. Moments later I would check again and sure enough there was another ant. So I would wait in the kitchen for another ant and nothing would show up. So back to the couch again. Moments later I would check again and sure enough there was another ant. So I would wait in the kitchen for another ant and nothing would show up. So back to the couch I went again. Moments later I would check again …

This ridiculous annoying cycle went on and on. But I came to the conclusion that the only possible point of entry was the kitchen fan opening, so I sealed it off, and bingo, no more ants.
