I just saw my very new psychiatrist, this was my second session with her.
I really don’t know what to think of her?
Well what I do know about her is that she doesn’t like to over medicate her patients. Maybe this is a good thing.
When I told her that I’ve been feeling stressed out lately she said keep things the way they are but if my irritability gets worse that maybe I can go up on the Depakote a little bit.
Just to 1250mg of Depakote instead of 1500mg. She is making me decide.
I don’t know if I like this.
She also posted an article on her website on the dangers of polypharmacy.
She also recommended that I try an EMDR technique called butterfly tapping, where you sit up and cross your arms and hands over your chest and tap your right and left hands on your chest or upper shoulders.
This technique is supposedly good to decrease anxiety or stressful situations
It seems a bit odd to me.
I tried it out several times and it doesn’t work for me.
I’m thinking about not seeing her again because she seems to be primarily a therapist and secondly an anti medication psychiatrist.
She even said that I was overmedicated, which I’m not.
I’m actually on low doses
I worked with an EMDR trauma therapist and did the bilateral tapping, and it worked wonders for me. It worked best for me when there is a therapist guiding me and walking me through my trauma, and to help me “decompress” the trauma before the session ends.
EMDR is more than just tapping, it also uses mental imaging to route out trauma. I personally loved it but lost my insurance and couldn’t continue, but the four months I worked with her I made a lot of improvements PTSD wise.
EMDR and butterfly are both legitimate
The reason why I went to my last doctor again is mainly because she doesn’t rely on meds so much.
The article on the dangers of polypharmacy she posted on her website was a red flag to stay away
