Benzodiazepines affecting (GABA) gamma-aminio-butyric acid receptor

#1

Continuing the discussion from Information on Xanax, help!:

Gabapentin was initially synthesized to mimic the chemical structure of the neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), but is not believed to act on the same brain receptors.

While I don’t understand all of this I do understand enough to maybe have a better idea of why Neurontine does help my son as a benzo would yet without the same negatives I see when he is on benzos. Perhaps I need to get a better understanding of GABA
