Hello, so my medication has been interfering with my memory. I hate this and it takes me alot to study because I keep forgetting what I study. I take valium and I used to take lorazepam, My psychiatrist told me that It would take me at least 6 months for me to get better. I’m thinking on stopping to take valium, but of course I’ll talk to my psychiatrist first. Does this happened before to any of you? And what are your thoughts on it?
They won’t prescribe benzos here. They give them out like candy in the hospital but once you get out they leave you to detox off them on your own. It sucks, cuz they can really help, but i have to stay away from them since i got addicted to ativan in the past.
My short term memory is shot but longer term seems to work well
Takes a while for things to sink in basically
I was on diazepam for years and I had to take myself off it
Almost felt like they treated me as a write off as there was no desire to help me quit
Was on 30mg a day in the end and it took me 1 year to get clean of it
It’s been 1 week since I last took Lorazepam. Benzos definitely aren’t good for your memory.
I second this.
Best bet is to talk to your pdoc and come up with a plan to quit @niales1989
I really want to leave valium because of my memory. I thought on stopping taking it by myself, but I fear for what may happen.
@niales1989 - Do you take it everyday? And at a high dose? If yes to both questions, you need to taper off them slowly. Withdrawal from benzos can be dangerous.
I tried it too quick and made myself very ill and had to go back up
You’re literally talking about cutting the pills into fours and very gradually dropping it down over a very long period of time
It effects you nervous system
My understanding is the deposits of the drug is absorbed by your nervous system and when it gets low it sends it into overdrive because it’s dependent on that drug and its effects
Basically it’s nasty and I now know why they’re so hesitant to give it out
Mine was prescribed for anxiety and it got that high because the doctor used it to try and control Haldol side effects
Benzos are famous for messing with your memory.
Yes, I do take it everyday. I take 10mg, it might not seem much but it’s affecting me. Also left lorazepam 3 weeks ago.
The dose just tells people how long you took it for
Sure you had good relief on 2mg, 4mg etc to your now 10mg
The doctor at the time just let it go out of control to make it tomorrows problem
Yeah that’s not very much valium for a 24 hour period. According to google, 40 mg per day is the max.
I’m not trying to downplay your potential benzo withdrawal, but I doubt you get sezuires from your withdrawal. You should be okay. Im no doctor though, you should talk to a medical professional about a tapering plan.
I was on them early on because of anxiety and panics attacks. Don’t remember much anymore lol.
I am an user of buspirone that IS an anxiolitic without addiction and that don’t affect my memory. Buspirone IS great for my anxiety and panick attacks. I add it with cymbalta 30.
Buspirone can to be also helpfull for users that want to withdrawal benzodiazépines.
