Back to basics: Does Descartes’ refutation of “evil demon” stand up to scrutiny? You decide.
You should look into more modern research like that of nick Bostrom and Dr. Gates.
Then what happens when you’re shown the “real” reality one day. How do you know that too isn’t a simulation. It’s a dead end theory.
Simulation all seems to work to dehumanise all those around you.
Not helpful.
You need to accept that people are real, as this kinda thinking is not healthy.
What if you were to fall into a serious psychotic episode, what might you do if you just think life is a simulation?

I’m familiar with Bostrom’s work, particularly his work on transhumanism, one of my pet interests. I would argue that my metaphysical simulation theory only marginally overlaps with the alien and “exotic physics” models.
In my model there is no “real” universe; the universe itself is a demonic trick. Is there a metadevil behind the devil? The ontological argument makes that unlikely, if not impossible.
In this case it refers to the make-believe quality of the external world and the laws governing it.
Where do the laws bend?
They don’t bend, they are simply non-existent except for heuristic purposes.
And why do you think that?
Of course there is ! And it keeps on going back to infinity ! What a dead end theory…
Partly philosophical reasons like the one stated above, but also more personal reasons I couldn’t share without having the thread moved to unusual beliefs or even closed.
You genuinely believe there is a devil behind the devil? Also, that a regression ad infinitum should be conceivable doesn’t make it actual. In addition, should the said regression proven true it wouldn’t justify ignoring it only because it’s unassailable.
I’m not saying there isn’t reasons why the universe is here. I just think there is no logic why you tend to lean one way on it. Unless you believe in religious purposes, there is zero evidence to sway the argument one way.
You said it.
Just because you can come up with whacky theories about the universe doesn’t make it so!
Please keep that in mind…
Well, that wasn’t quite the point I was making but I’m happy to leave it at that. Out of curiosity, what do you think of Descartes’ evil demon hypothesis?
How else can you imagine life being? Like merging with Truth itself, knowing all things happening everywhere, from beginning to end? That would get boring, I imagine.
I believe we’re here because some kind of agreement was made, it’s kind of like a dumb-cation, re-experiencing truth from the ground up. Like hitting the memory erase button and doing existence all over again.
We’re not trapped here if we don’t want to be. Just enjoy it though, as best you can. I know this is a hard call for a schizophrenic, life feels like grinding misery. But I promise, there’s a way to make life fun, treatment-wise. It’s coming.
@NotSeksoEmpirico in the case the universe is a creation of an evil demon… If you had the great privilege of talking to it (as an ambassador of humankind) and, supposing that the evil demon is a proud creature, and willing to answer your questions with some degree of sincerity…
What are the questions you would like to formulate?
I dreamt years ago that I had a long conversation with the devil. Oddly enough we discussed Descartes at length, and he revealed to me some arcane truths about the “universe”.
