Being online is not a total waste of time

I cycle between here and YouTube most days. On YouTube I watch whatever catches my eye. I went to a play with my sister on Sunday and was pleasantly surprised I could carry on a semi-informed conversation with her on the way there and the way back about several different topics due to videos I saw on YouTube.

She goes to work 4 days a week and works closely with people and has an active social life and I was worried we wouldn’t have anything to talk about but watching all those political videos about Trump and Biden and the economy and even animal videos and many other varied videos enabled me to offer my two cents on a variety of subjects. Of course YouTube is no good substitute for real life experiences but I have learned quite a lot there.

Yeah it helps for sure and you need to get out more! Honestly that is the art of conversation. Finding things that you have in common…then friends and more. My father taught me years ago that knowing about a sport isn’t bad. You can talk if you have an opinion about a team or player if someone else does too. You don’t have to agree but it’s a conversation.

I’m glad you realise this matey. Maybe time to test the waters in a social group???

YouTube is the most interesting thing I can pay attention to. Travel, how things are made, I get a sense of the amazing parts of the world.

I learned a new handstitch the other day to fix some clothes.

I have difficulties watching tv nowadays.

I feel attacked by some tv people.

I spent all day on Facebook today sitting in bed.

I don’t do much browsing nowadays. I browse chatgpt and other sites related to work. And visit this site mostly and Netflix rarely. Apart from that try to engage in reading hardcover to gain knowledge and fill the void of real conversation and social life.

I am into that as well. Filling the void, but most of my time is on this site, since I am learning from you about sz. And I gained some knowledge on that and perhaps will be easyer to accept it.

I am using youtube and facebook mostly. I have completely stopped all political videos or tried very hard to avoid any of it. I just cant get emotionally invested in things through screens anymore. If something is happening its either in person, real, or fiction. Im tired of the artificiality and want to expand my horizons, but at the same time Im only digesting things that are relevant or important to me, that factor into my wellbeing and mental health.

Self-help, recovery oriented, learning new skills, creative projects, fantasy

I think the internet can be like an info-highway or it can be a waste/dump of chaos but thats ok, some chaos is good–just not an overload of it. If I spend too much time clinging to the possibility of someone else’s story I cant tell my own.
