Are you in the medical field?
i’m an auxiliary nurse so yes, kind of. i work in a hospital and i want to be a nurse, but lately all this has kind of hiccuped my plans
Haldol is a first gen med, but I’m on it primarily for the least likely to cause weight gain/but also works well ratio. I got this huge list of these things and spent a lot of time looking it over.
for you.
thank you

Ah yes, caplyta and geodon aren’t available in the UK yet.
i am not happy about this…it is my second ap choice tbh,
Abilify didn’t work for me, became psychotic, but I didn’t gain any weight. Lurasidone did work and I didn’t gain any weight on that.
STAY AWAY FROM OLANZAPINE(ZYPREXA) IT IS WELL KNOWN TO CAUSE AN INSANE AMOUNT OF WEIGHT GAIN. I GAINED ABOUT 80lbs WHILE ON IT. I WAS ON 30mg. I am now on 2.5mg and have lost about 70lbs. I want to get off it completely and lose the last 10lbs but the withdrawals are brutal so I stay on a small amount.
Oh my ! TMI!

The first two weeks on anti psychotics I felt like I was about to jump out of my skin, extremely restless. I thought my soul was trying to get out, nobody told me it was a side effect, if I had known I would have resisted. I didn’t even know the meds I took were called anti psychotics until I’d been sick five years. I took melleril, a major tranquilizer, now off the market. I would have disliked taking a med with the word psycho in it, but nobody I’ve ever known had that problem.
I have been on Abilify for over three years continually. I feel ok. When I first took Abilify, it took me over half a year to get used to the insomnia, akathisia, agitation, and anxiety. But, after this, I felt better. I took all the other medications with no success and really wanted Abilify to work. It works now and makes me sleepy. I am working online and supporting myself too. I am doing ok. I have been off medications seven times and each time I have been hospitalized afterwards. I must remain compliant and have for over three years now. I have not been in a hospital during this time. I like Abilify now but at times hear voices occasionally. During these times, I continue my medication and the voices disappear in a week or two. So, nothing is ideal. I would try to find a medication that works best for you. I like Abilify but know that it may not work in others. Best wishes!!
I gained a lot of weight on abilify, but I was also very immobile and had a poor diet.
It’s not by any means the best med I’ve been on.
I quit it for a while, and it lots its effect even on the maximum dose.
I’m on Saphris now, and I’ve lost a lot of weight, as well as regained my energy and personality.
good luck with the meds! I hope they work well for you =)
thanks everyone for all the reassurance! i feel more prepared for the road ahead of me trying to find the right medication(s)
