Back on Benzos

I saw my psychiatrist today and she placed me on Klonopin, because my anxiety and stress levels haven’t gotten better.
The high stress is also making me mood cycle and this is a concern.

I can take up to 1mg a day but she gave me the option to take it as needed if I wanted to.

Hopefully this will help.
I’m burnt out!!!

It’s freaky how different doctors have different attitudes towards benzos.

You didn’t have any trouble coming off them last time so that’s good.

Many doctors won’t prescribe benzos if they know that their patient has an addictive personality.
I don’t have this issue.

I’ll probably take it as needed though.
It works better this way.

Glad you don’t have problems with addiction. I know a lot of people can’t take benzos because of this and doctors don’t like prescribing them i guess. Hope the new med helps!

I’m considering taking L-theanine 200mg for daytime anxiety and just take klonopin for sleep

I was on it for years and taking it everyday didn’t help so much.
Hoping that taking it as needed may help more.

Thanks @wayward.

Hope it works for you,

I know you need some relief.

I take klonopin twice daily and its helped immensely with my anxiety.

As I’ve said before, a good pdoc understands that any med, including benzos, are a tool in their toolbox (to quote my pdoc,) especially in the case of schizophrenia as it can be accompanied by a lot of anxiety and susceptible to stress etc.

There’s no shame in using a benzo, there’s no shame in not using a benzo. It’s just a medicine, that when used as prescribed and under good doctor supervision (like any med, especially APs,) can be extremely beneficial to someone who actually needs it. There’s a stigma around it, some for good reason, but a lot of it for not good reasons. It’s not our fault doctors over-prescribed benzos in the past, and that a lot of patients who didn’t really need them were seeking them for “anxiety” or just plain abuse.

All that being said, if you can get by without one, you definitely should. But for those of us who have exhausted all the other medical options for chronic or acute anxiety disorders, it’s about as good as a drug for anxiety is, as an AP is for schizophrenia, IMO.

I have taken a benzo on a daily basis since 1989. I’ve always taken it as prescribed. Never had a problem. It’s a medication specifically for anxiety.

I agree with @thomas 100%.
