B.O. and psych meds. Do I smell?

My Mom recently told me that my room smells “sweet in a sickening way.” She thinks it might be due to the meds that I’m on. I don’t know wtf to make of what she said.

But, has anyone ever heard of psych meds causing body odor?

I personally don’t smell anything, but she says it’s been going on for a couple years and she just didn’t know how to bring it up.

I know that few decades ago meds were so bad that these caused body odor as it was the case with my aunt who was sz and had been hospitalized almost all of her life. I do not believe my meds cause body odor, but if I do not take care of my health and wash myself, I may start smelling.

I used to be really bad about bathing. I take a shower every couple of days now. Still not very good but better than when I hardly ever showered years ago.

When I lived in Miami in my auto I sometimes smelled so bad that the manager of Burger King almost kicked me out. Personal hygiene is very important.

When was the last time you cleaned the carpet? Changed the sheets? Most mattresses need to be replaced every 10 years also. Milk and diary products can have an effect also… From looking into it white Europeans can’t digest diary very well causing bad BO. Probably a ton more to look into before you start blaming the meds.

It could be the bathing thing. My personal hygiene? I shower every 2-3 days. I guess that’s normal in France, but maybe my mom was hinting that I needed to shower more often. I don’t know.

First off, HELLO I’m loving the Faulkner thing you have going on there.

Yes, it might just be a problem solved with a little extra showering. The way I do it to keep it from being monotonous is I’ll get a $1 shower puff in a nice color. Then I’ll use it the night before I wash my hair. I don’t wash my hair every day, because it’s long and tends to frizz (but sometimes it’s wonderfully curly, so I shouldn’t complain). Anyway, when I’m washing my hair I don’t use the puff. I’m just doing a perfunctory body wash and I focus on my hair. … Wait this is getting awkwardly personal.

Just make it fun with a puff and don’t use the puff every time, so you feel like you have a break from the work. This means you’re taking showers of varying lengths. You can tailor your shower to your need.
Do a pit check too. Condition yourself to feel icky when you’re sweaty.

Thanks. Nice pony, btw.

I have to find a reason to care about hygiene. I like being clean and all that, and if it will calm my mother’s nostrils then I suppose I’ll have to drag myself into the bathroom when I don’t feel like it. Just took a shower an hour ago, actually. I get to binge-watching Doctor Who on Netflix and I lose track of myself. God, I have to get out more.

Eh, I say just spray on some cologne, lol.

Have you had a blood sugar check lately? Undiagnosed diabetes can make people smell sweet and sickly.

I’m sure you would know if you stink.

Otherwise, deo quits working…the companies get cheaper and cheaper so product doesn’t even work, as it doesn’t apply anything. Women have hormonal changes and have to change products every few years as a norm…

People around schizos sometimes suffer their own problems. This could include olfactory hallucinations for scents/odors no one else smells. This is a whole other topic it is handy to know to remain okay. Hint…hint…Psych doctors don’t like to discuss this… Usually the smell is fowl as bad joke and you cannot smell it. But who knows?

I heard the smell thing from meds can happen but it is usually almost unnoticeable to humans except to animals like sniffer dogs…Lots more often, you will get a bad taste in mouth from meds like metalic after taste making some foods taste nasty.

If you make yourself so funky, the smell comes back an hour after showering, wash off the pitts with rubbing alcohol on cotton or TP. This can happen…It is easier to shower every couple of days to avoid growing the bacterial mill where-ever.

You can also spread baking soda all over carpet + mattress and walk/sleep on it a week before a good vacuum…Newspapers put under sheets will reduce some mattress funk…

Pot smells this way to the other ones too…

Thank you.

If I didn’t live out in the country(without cable internet), I’d binge watch Dr. Who all the time too.

At one point I noticed a different underarm odor. Now I can’t smell it at all though I know it must be there.

I have known people who reek of alcohol. Supposedly, it seeps out of their pores even if they did not have a recent drink. I used to work with an alcoholic who had a weird displeasing odor.

not from here…lol
take care

I am diabetic, but not to the extent I need to take metformin any longer. Whenever my wife notices that I smell sweet, I can pretty much guarantee that my blood sugar is high if I test it then.

meds messed up my body odor becsuse of prolactin and hormones most liekly. i used to like the way i smelled with bo now i dont

@cactustomato you reminded me… I was suffering minor itchy skin often and during symptoms it was unbearable. Yah for female therapists! As she said use a body wash instead of soap. It worked but the scent after a shower is so refreshing in itself compared to soap and lingers on the skin all day. So I use a lofa and body wash and never like using soap anymore.
