I got 40 out of 50.
I might talk to my therapist about autism because it sounds like me ever since I was young!

I said this so many times on the forum, if a person with sz takes one of these tests it will tell them to get tested, and yes you still have those problems from when you were young. There is a major chance for a misdiagnosis with this, especially when the people that test for this dont know much about sz. Getting a misdiagnosis would be humiliating and I would not like to be them.
Right. Should I delete this thread?
No, you dont have to delete the thread, I mean you can if you want but just saying people should be aware that there is similarities, and they need to be careful. I wouldnt want someone to go get a misdiagnosis.
Yeah, itās something that we have to be extremely careful with. I personally think I have both. If anyone is upset, I will delete the thread.
I scored 43.
I have an assessment soon, but I am not sure what an actual doctor will think.
I would have expected this to have been diagnosed much younger
I always score 42. I have an autism diagnosis
Me, too.
The thing is, my mom would get upset if I did any of the three: not looking at people in the eye, saying wrong things, or touching my hair repeatedly (stimming)
So I would be terrified because I knew I would be punished if I did any of the three when I was younger.
Touching your hair is not really stimming. Stimming generally involves flapping, rocking, or hand waving. The few socially appropriate stims I have seen kids develop usually came about because they were punished for more noticeable stims. the point of a stim is to create sensory output to block an overwhelming amount of sensory input. It needs to be somewhat distracting by its very nature.
I have Touretteās which involves a certain amount of tics. Tics are similar to stims in appearance, but are done for different reasons. A stimming behavior is done to soothe or regulate sensory processing. A tic is done because the idea of not doing so is physically painful. If I hold in a tic, I get pain in the part of my body that wants to move.
Most people in the world also just have nervous habits. These are behaviors that bring comfort, but are easily controlled when itās not appropriate to have them. For example, many people bite their nails, but refrain from doing so in public.
Types of stimming
Examples of stimming include the following:
Auditory stimmingAuditory stimming uses the personās sense of hearing and sound. It may include behaviors such as:
vocal sounds, such as humming, grunting, or high-pitched shrieking tapping on objects or ears, **covering and uncovering ears**, and finger-snapping **repetitive speech**, such as repeating song lyrics, book sentences, or movie lines
Tactile stimming
Tactile stimming uses the personās sense of touch. It may include behaviors such as:
**skin-rubbing** or **scratching**, with the hands or objects hand movements, such as opening and closing one's fists finger-tapping
Visual stimming
Visual stimming uses a personās sense of sight. It may include repetitive behaviors such as:
staring or gazing at objects, such as ceiling fans or lights repetitive blinking or turning lights on and off moving fingers in front of the eyes hand-flapping eye tracking or peering from the corners of the eyes object placement, such as lining up objects
Vestibular stimming
Vestibular stimming uses a personās sense of movement and balance. It may include repetitive behaviors such as:
**rocking front to back** or side to side spinning jumping pacing
Olfactory or taste stimming
Olfactory and taste stimming use a personās sense of smell and taste. They may include repetitive behaviors such as:
sniffing or smelling people or objects licking tasting objects by placing them in the mouth
Iāve highlighted the ones that affect me . Tv can be a prime one for covering my ears and rocking . Scratching is something Iām not always aware Iām doing , but scratch marks show that I have been doing so .
I donāt know what makes my mom so upset with these things but I rub my hands repetitively a lot. I also rock back and forth but I mask it a lot because my mom would be like āstop that!ā
I just mask myself constantly because Iām afraid of someone pointing it out, and Iām so ashamed that I canāt make eye contact with people. Iāve been so ashamed of these things ever since I was younger.
Should I do these things- like anything I try to hide? Is it a good thing I do these things? Or is it something I should hide?
From my understanding a stim is anything that creates sensory input. Nuerotypicals stim. Everybody stims. But autistic people tend to have stereotyped stimming like yoh described.
Can you have tics if you donāt have tourettes?
I have always had spasms and strange involuntary movements, but not enough to qualify for a diagnosis.
My friend claims the term tics is reserved for tourettes patients
Thank you for sharing. I personally have a tic that Iāve had since I was little, but itās not bothersome. As a person with neurological/genetic difference, I have āwobbly legsā, which I try so hard to hide. Itās kind of a collection of spasms on my legs when Iām not careful. Iāve heard from my doctor that itās because of atrophy.
I hope my struggles can resonate with you a little, if they can be. You are loved just the way you are
I scored 33, but that doesnāt seem that high although it said it was, I rock when Iām very upset and rub my hands together, I always thought it was anxiety. Interesting for sure.
Iāve scored high on these online autism quizzes, and I thought I should get tested. I recently asked my pdoc and case manager about it, and they both said there are a lot of similarities between sz and autism/Aspergers. My pdoc felt I didnāt need to get tested. But maybe you should ask your pdoc @anon10648258? They will give you the best advice.
My pdocās office is inaccessible so I canāt get to the office for testing. Thereās a huge flight of stairs and those stairs could easily kill my knees. No elevators, unfortunately.
But Iāll ask him the next time when I can call his office.
I scored 30. Does that mean I am autistic? It says any score between 26 and 32 means autism.
I am not sure. There are a lot of overlaps betwern sz and autism so I guess there are a lot of common factors that we may say āyesā to.
