Autism must suck

My struggle with socializing due to schizophrenia pisses me off, I could understand how difficult it is to live with autism.

For some people it must be terrible. I know a guy who is autistic and he doesn’t act ‘normal’ socially at all. But for him, he seems to have developed a good attitude about it, and it doesn’t affect his life too much. Honestly I am sometimes quite jealous of his approach.

Multiple sclerosis

I’m fine with it. It’s people who don’t have autism that annoy me.

Sorry I annoy u broski

I might have Aspergers too. It affects my social life.

I know people with high functioning autism who don’t even see their autism as a disability, just sort of a variant in normal human personality or being. They are doing very well and you can’t even tell them apart from a non autistic person, maybe they just seem a bit socially awkward.

However if you look at lower functioning autism it is absolutely a disability. I’ve read a lot and watched documentaries and whatnot and people talk about being trapped in these bodies that they can’t control, and sensory systems that are totally out of whack and hypersensitive. And because their bodies do all these weird behaviors and they can’t speak people assume they are mentally handicapped when they aren’t.

I think people with high functioning autism should be mindful of those suffering at the lower end of the spectrum when they argue it isn’t a disability and shouldn’t be viewed as one. It’s wonderful that’s the case for them, but it isn’t for all.

How close is ‘the good doctor’ to a real autist?

I think you’re right. I’ve never heard anyone with autism say, “Hey, having autism is cool and fun.”

Nearly everyone annoys me, so don’t take it personally.

My 20 year old son has high functioning autism as well as Tourettes and ADHD. Sometimes he thinks it sucks but he has lots of friends and an excellent job where he really excels. People just kind of see him as quirky and cool. He’s soon going for his class one license to be a long haul driver

As a child it was difficult for me to deal with my autism as I grew up it has lessened. I hope the same is with my other mental illnesses.
