Auditory hallucinations pertaining to porn and other things

I’m new to this blog, so hi.

When I have auditory hallucinations – I’m pretty sure they’re hallucinations – they pertain to masturbation or porn. Other times peoples’ names pop into my head. From there, I have thoughts that I imagine those people would say or think.

Do other people relate to these experiences? How do you cope? I stopped looking at porn about 1.5-2 months ago and stopped masturbating around the same time, with the hope that stopping the habit would stop the hallucinations, though I’m not sure if avoiding masturbation is healthy. As far other names of other people popping into my head, I’m not sure what to do about that.

If anyone has links to scientific articles relating to sex, masturbation, porn, and other “vices/ guilty pleasures,” please share them.

Thank you for your help!

So you hear porn noises? Stopping watching porn may help them decrease over time so I think that’s good. Otherwise I’m not sure what to tell you…just try not to feel bad about them as you can’t help it obviously…though that does sound very distracting!! Sorry!!

Do you have a therapist you could share this with?

My voices usually disappear when I masturbate.

That’s not it! Sorry for the bad description. The auditory hallucinations are usually phrases and incomplete sentences, something like, “he’s looking at porn” or “masturbation” or something of that order. It’s not super disruptive, but has made me somewhat paranoid about looking at porn or masturbating, because I think someone – who? I don’t know – will know about it and then shame me.

I have a psychiatrist. We usually talk about medication management. I will bring it up next time.

Have you ever had therapy with a psychologist?

Ohhhh ok gotcha. Yeah I’ve heard of a number of people getting those. Maybe just be confident about it like “yeah I am, gotta problem with that??” Haha. Good luck and I hope they improve.

Have you ever labeled them as voices and let them fade away and continue bating?

Good suggestion. I will try that. Not sure what the result will be, but thanks!

That’s what I did for a while, but it didn’t seem to work. I don’t know if my current practice of abstaining is any better… Thanks for the suggestions!

I have had different voices telling me I must be -insert type of pervert- because I do that. Or that if I just didn’t do the m -word I surely could get a girlfriend. I came to the conclusion the voices want me to be emotionally and physically off balance from sexual tension. If I didn’t do that for 2 months, I doubt I’d be able to sleep on a regular basis.

Voices like that can especially get into your head (I’m not trying to persecute anyone) if you are very religious.
I was religious and believed the teachings that you if you even look sexually at a woman you aren’t married to, that is a sin.

So I took those voices seriously for a long time.

Anyway my advice would be don’t take them seriously. Almost %100 of people admit to masturbating when polled anonymously. The rest lied.

I think (in fact I know) that 90% of people on planet earth masturbate. Doing it is as natural and healthy as eating or sleeping. It has benefits like easing stress. But I guess it is a problem for you. Masturbating isn’t the problem, watching too much porn is the problem. Cut out the porn and fantasize about live woman but don’t obsess about it.

"Everything in moderation " is a great saying.

moderation is a good word. thanks

Those voices or thought patterns have definitely got in my head and made me insecure about masturbation. I’ve heard it’s healthy; hell, I did it for so long and I did alright back then. That’s funny about polling people anonymously. Thanks for the response.

You’re welcome. I think some sz and sza’s hallucination’s just want to try to torment the person and keep them off balance anyway possible. That’s the kind I have. If others can reason with theirs, good for them I guess. As far as mine go I regularly tell them to ------ themselves and that they don’t get a say in what I do or don’t do

Yeah, I think I did it too much as a kid. Now I associate it with a lack of relationships. I think that by somehow avoiding that behavior I will be more likely to be in healthy relationships. In reality, working on other soft skills like communication, listening, etc. will probably be more helpful.

Sometimes it’s hard not to “obsess”, as a result of my anxiety and my personality. But it is something I can work on.

“Auditory hallucinations pertaining to porn and other things”

they are bad, bad, bad, bad, bad. been watching pr0n since childhood, when the internet was around. about half a year ago, i stopped watching pr0n completely because I couldn’t moderate it.

Just my .02

I think you can live without porn. I don’t see how it contributes anything healthy. Masturbation may be normal but it isn’t mandatory. I mean nothing bad is going to happen if you don’t masturbate. Do it if you want, for sure, lot’s of people do, but it isn’t a ‘need’ it is a ‘want’.

As far as the voices, bring them up with your pdoc next time you see him/her. They are just voices coming from your own brain, not someone else. I struggle with an internal voice too and it very much seems external. Very much. I understand.

Ha! Silly video. Thanks
