Ativan for anxiety

Im going to start ativan this monday anyone has experience with this medication? does it sedate you more with the effects of antipsychotics?

It’s a benzo. For short term use only. If you use it long term it loses it’s effectiveness and you will develop a physical dependence on it.

Its a really small dose it wont be permanent i think i hope not. i was put on benzo before and then we stopped it.

I wouldn’t use an Ativan for anxiety, it can cause more anxiety when you’re dependent on them.

Yeah its a big risk for opiate addiction, why do anxiety meds have to be so dangerous?

I cant even use zoloft since it makes me worse maybe prozac will work for the anxiety too.

I guess cuz they’re sedatives.

Most sedative drugs are dangerous when mixed with anti psychotics.

I mainly stick to stimulants but have a sedative occasional when my symptoms ‘flare’ up.

Risperidone doesnt really sedate me but i can imagine it will kick my butt combined with ativan, now i am scared to even take them for two weeks.

I love Ativan. It calms me down if I have an anxiety attack and its great when I can’t sleep, yet it doesn’t make me drowsy… but I use it very rarely because like all benzodiazepenes you can develop a physical dependence on it.

Out of all the psych meds I have tried Ativan my favorite.

Yeah, being sedated is no fun.

A.k.a when your negative symptoms kick in.

Exercise is vital when you’re on alot of sedative meds, kicks your mood up as well.

Thats great you didnt get hooked on it zoloft used to be my favorite, i have never had any dependence on anything that isnt coffee but i used weed every day to calm myself so it could end up the same with ativan and i dont want that.

You have to understand with a benzo, once you are dependent on it, if you quit cold turkey you can have a seizure and die, or spend months or even years with horrible awful withdrawal symptoms. If you take it no more than once a week you will be fine, BUT if you take it daily for months on end there is a real chance you will become dependent. Don’t confuse it with being addicted to coffee or cigarettes, it’s a far more serious problem.

Excercise does help if you are motivated to do it.

I’ve been using Ativan on and off for almost 20 years, but I don’t abuse it and I have never become dependent on it. Only use it when absolutely necessary, sparingly and you’ll be fine.

I take 1mg of Klonopin every day. :koala::koala::koala:

Sounds beneficial maybe half a pill when needed.

You’ll have to experiments to find out what dosage works for you. I have 0.5mg pills. I’ve never taken more than 2mg at once. Usually 1mg calms me down. You can use it 2-3 days in a row if you really need it and you’ll be fine, just wait a couple weeks before using it again. Ativan has a half-life of about 12 hours which means it takes 2-3 days to really get mostly out of your system. Then you want to give yourself a few days after that before using it again.

I went through severe withdrawal from Ativan, I was having panic attacks, heart palpitations, my hands were shaking and I had suicidal thoughts. Don’t get addicted to it like I did, withdrawal can literally kill you.
