Aspergers/learning difficulty/nonverbal learning disorder observations. And if you can’t get recognition of a possible problem because everything is attributed to your psych diagnosis? Basically in that situation you are left in limbo. All I have to go on is my own research and observations. That tells me beyond a shadow of a doubt there are issues irrespective of a confirmation by a professional that may never come. The funny thing is if I had been born 3-4 decades later with the kind of recognition of the issues in schools that there are now, I would undoubtedly have been flagged as needing help and support.
As it is I have had no help and support for it.
hey tim,
The history of psychiatry is rubbish but that is our lot!
You do differently to me. That isn’t a slight but I can see why it impacts upon your life and that is a no brainer.
Seriously. I’m not being critical of your journey. It’s all a mess for everyone.
I can see the skew though! That aspergers screams at me sometimes with your posts to me…it’s not schizophrenia…but it’s something different! Each to their own…I don’t mean to exclude you dude…but there’s others who frequent around here who aren’t as hamstrung by their symptoms.

Although I would stay clear of suggesting schizophrenia applies to me the question of whether some degree of psychosis/thought disorder is in the mix is another matter.
It’s kind of hard to tell. Risperdal consta is mainly used for psychosis but can also be used for ASD. However the psych lot don’t even acknowledge ASD etc as an issue ,so I reckon their having me on Consta is they are thinking psychosis/thought disorder prevention.
When I mentioned things to the NP re Aspergers she said schizotypal might also explain things. It could be both Asperger symptoms and schizotypal symptoms apply to varying degrees.
I kind of think sometimes diagnostic categories don’t always capture the full flavour of things.

yeah for sure matey!
It is what it is and the critical thing is function!
We can argue semantics but it is what it is and there’s no way out of that.
If your not 100% then it’s an issue…I’m not denying that!
Rogueone.
At the end of the day irrespective of of diagnostic considerations it all comes down to functioning ,distress and risk to self or others.
By the way how’s the cricket going?
hey mate,
Still playing winter and summer cricket. Hot enough over here to play winter cricket just depends on rain!
I’m soon to be 47 and opening the batting in the bottom grade. I still do well either though the eyesight is failing and the reflexes are getting worse. Love the challenge of it…really enjoy it and I need to keep fit to do it!
Thanks for asking…how’s you been?
Rogueone.
I’ve been not too bad apart from the constant anxiety of a forthcoming move. It’s going to happen I just don’t know when exactly. Step daughter has said she will give me a lot of help. I’m not good with change.
hey mate,
Yeah hearing that! Good you have some help. Keep the stress low so be organised. Helps keeps things in perspective and keeps you thinking about necessary things. Hope it goes well…I’m sure it will …as they say…don’t Panic!

One of my greatest cognitive deficits- organising and planning.
Keep it simple. Small lists. Tick off what you’ve done or achieved. Helps keep things organised.
Simple things like lableing boxes helps moving…it’s stressful for normal folk!
