Are your families successful?

My siblings and parents are academically and vocationally successful. I read that schizophrenics are brilliant. I’m wondering is it the same for you. Do your brothers and sisters and mom and dad excel at work and school?

My sister was top of her class, but I scored higher on my SATs. But I didn’t walk with my class and had to go to summer school to graduate because I had an episode. She went on to do well in college at a great school. I went to the hospital. :frowning:

My parents never went to university and they both have average jobs. My siblings and I are all pretty smart though, and we got good Alevels here in the Uk. My brother got a 2:1 from a top university in Biology. I’m also going back to university next year to finish my degree.

My parents are successful at what they tried to do in life, I have no complaints.

My sister is happy and employed, so she’s a success too.

I feel like the black sheep who hasn’t pursued a successful passion in life, but I finally decided to obsess over C programming, even though it won’t make money for the first year at least. I will dispassionately do a side-hustle to pay off my debts then wait until my C programming allows me to afford device prototyping and marketing budgets. Making training videos will probably yield me 10-20k which will be enough to fund bigger businesses.

My dad was self employed all his life and cheated on his taxes so he has a small social security check and no other retirement. He is too old to do the type of work he used to do but my mom still works.

I have two sisters and they are both successful. My little sister is a big wig for a pipe fabrication company and manages very large projects. My brother in law owns his own insurance and benefits company. He used to make big bucks with Aflac but wanted to go out on his own. They are wealthy and have four kids.

My older little sister is a graphic artist and owns her own business. She is very talented and does quite well for herself. Her live in girlfriend is a social worker and a life coach. She works for herself too. They own a home in the middle of downtown Atlanta. They love city life. I am not much on it myself but it’s nice to visit occasionally. You don’t even need a car to get around.

I have one sister in law and she is a nurse. An LPN. Divorced twice. Two kids. She is always broke, can’t pay her rent and can’t afford a car. She works her ass off though. Crazy shifts in a nursing home. She works overnight and routinely does 16 hour shifts. Her kids are almost grown. One leaves for the Army next month and the other has one more year of high school. When she loses child support she will be in trouble. I suspect she will probably move in with us or her mom. Her and my wife fight like cats and dogs so I hope it is the latter.

I am retired and do well for someone who doesn’t work but I miss having a career.

My brother and I are not successful due to illness related factors. My sister is a director at the interior design company she works for . She got a degree in art(not sure what sort of art degree). Both my parents could have gone to university but chose not to. My father trained as an army officer instead. My mother didn’t go because she didn’t want to heap such a financial burden on her mother.
My father switched from the army to the Foreign office after a few years. He had a moderately successful career ie enough to reach the equivalent rank of a senior brigadier and get an entry in Who’s who. My mum was a stay at home mum until she left my father after having worked at the Foreign office before she met him. When she did work again it was as an assistant library manager.

At 88 I doubt my father does much now , but here is what he did after taking early retirement from the Foreign office.

My father was a successful hard working businessman, he has been retired now for a while.

My brother is a successful executive and is quite wealthy.

My mom was a teachers aide for elementary aged children just like me.
She got me started in the field.

My mother made six figures before becoming disabled in her thirties.

I hate that she lost the ability to work, she was a district manager for a company called Henry Winkler, they deal in apartments. She went from working as a leasing consultant (starter job) to district manager within about three or four years.

Step-dad just made money building decks for people, since he’s a real good carpenter. He has land holdings now so he’s pretty secure, but he didn’t bring home nearly as much income as my mother.

I tried to work at the same company she did, but it was different then and I had issues with it so I had to quit. They wanted me to speak a lot of spanish and I totally fibbed on that in my resume, I did learn it but didn’t remember enough to really talk to people. Very few people spoke Spanish when my mother was working there.

And my grandparents have at least a million dollars and a military pension. Grandfather was a high ranking officer in the Navy and was on submarines a lot. My grandmother and he got married when they were rather young.

So basically everyone but me is successful. My grandparents offered to pay for any and all college expenses to return to college, I have to make sure I’m ready or I’ll waste it and have an episode. I plan on it next year though if I’m still living here.

My mom, dad, and sister’s are all wealthy. I am poor. I graduated college with a 4.0 GPA. In other words I had a perfect score in every class.

both of my parents are wealthy…I am poor also…when mother dies I am supposed to be rich but I would rather have my mother around…so not waiting for that with a greedy heart…I hope I am old when she dies…well…older anyways…like 75 or something.

I’m not ready to lose my mom either @jukebox. My mom lives in another state but I call her almost every day. She’s 71 and in great health. She’s also very active. I hope she stays around for many years to come. Her mom, my grandma, lived to 100. I hope my mom does too.

My mom’s only in her fifties, I am lucky. She had me when she was 20. I love her more than anyone else on the planet. Losing her would crush me.

My family are all successful. I was not super rich but at one point many years ago I was successful. Not any more. But my son said that he was happy we aren’t rich because then we have to work for what we want and it makes us appreciate what we have. Smart boy that one

My parents both do well at their work, however, i’m the only one i my family that has gone to university and graduated with a bachelor. My step brothers and my sister completed grade 12 at school. One of my step brothers has a vocational certificate and works as a mechanic. My sister works in a factory and my other step brother works as a manager in a supermarket. So i would say that my family is pretty successful.

My dad makes like 850k yearly at his job,
His goal for me if all else fails he will support me financially in life.
My middle brother graduated with a bachelors degree and has been job swapping for a while now,
My oldest brother is married with a son, he has a job that allows him to live fine even though he does not have a college degree
Both my brothers do not suffer with mental illness,

My grandparents who I see often are very financially well too.

So that’s that.

Thanks, Guys. It’s really neat to read about your families. My family is supportive of me, though I have not accomplished as much as them.

Yeah, my brilliance got me a four year crack addiction and fired from many jobs and wrecking two cars and getting kicked out of housing.
