I will be on Abilify Maintena 400mg soon, and I am worried about the side effects. I have few options that work for me. So I want to know possible combinations of drugs so I can fix me and stay on Abilify 400mg. I want to propose something to my doctor if I do not feel well. Please tell me what are you taking and for what if you are on Abilify. And please tell me also how do you feel… Thanks in advance.
I’m on abilify. A routine blood test showed that it increased my blood sugar. So I take metformin to counteract that.
It increased my anxiety, so initally I took a benzo to counteract that. Now I take l-theanine to manage that and don’t take a benzo.
It raised my appetite so I take a bcomplex every other day to counteract that. I take a multivitamin without iron every other day (i.e. one day i take a bcomplex and the next day i take a multivitamin)
So in summary
- Raised blood sugar (get those blood tests!)
- increased anxiety
- increased appetite

I’m on Abilify Maintena 400 mg, for schizoaffective disorder. The only real side effect I’ve seen from it is decreased sex drive. I take low-dose Haldol tablets in addition, 2 mg in the morning and 1 mg at night. It works fairly well for me. I’m also on Lamictal and Wellbutrin for the bipolar side of my sza.

Hi @everhopeful! It will be in the end of May my first Abilify injectable shot. Actually I take Morfex, I always heard benzos does not help cognitive part, but when they are needed, nothing to do… I am mostly “afraid” of restless legs since 400 mg is maximum dosage. Very good to know bcomplex can help with appetite, another improvement I might ask for. Anxiety also “scares” me a bit if it is too excessive. I will be carefully with blood sugar for sure… Thanks a lot. Abilify is great but to survive on it not very easy!

Haldol probably counteract, good to know… My schizophrenia is paranoid type, but some doctors called it “delusional” schizophrenia - associated delirium in it. I think you have a “good chemistry” there. Thanks!
Lamictal stopped my shakiness on Latuda, u could try that if u get the shakes.

I’m taking the regular pill Abilify 15 mg. Also take Lamictal, Lithium, Wellbutrin and Xanax for sleep. The addition of Lithium seems to really have made a difference.
@everhopeful I need to try the b-complex as you suggest because of my increased appetite. I have some in the closet. I tried to take it but kept on forgetting so gave it up. @everhopeful you are supposed to take b-complex with meals, right?

I found a “high powered” bcomplex(like with greater than 1000% rda) interacted with abilify to give me chest pressure. Not good. So i take this now

It just has 100% rda.
Also I take abilify at noon and take the bcomplex at 6pm. Again there seems to be an interaction if I take them too close together.

Checked my bottle and the date is still good to take. However the B’s are all over 1000% DV. They smell so bad, like the usual vitamin smell (nothing funky).

I’d order the100% rda ones to be on the safe side. Just based on my experience.

Along side Abilify I take risperidone injection, high dose b vitamins, l-theanine, lithium orotate (which really helps a lot), and high doses of vitamin c. And sometimes vape CBD now and then. I’m thinking of taking more CBD and increasing it.
I forgot to mention sodium benzoate (NaBen) and sarcosine I take as well. 
I think supplements are only worth it if they make marked improvements. For me, I would need to end up working or going to college again.
I’m taking 20mg abilify per day, I take it in the morning as I get a slight stimulant effect so taking it in the morning means it doesn’t affect my sleep. Otherwise no significant side effects. I also take 800mg lithium as a mood stabiliser (schizoaffective), the combination works quite well for me, I still hear voices and am a little low at the moment but only a few weeks out of hospital after a major breakdown so I guess it’s to be expected things aren’t perfect, but I’m happy with the meds combo.

I hear voices but they’re more like intrusive thoughts or me talking to my self in my head.
