Are you going bald? Have you tried anything? Rogaine?

My hair is falling out because of stress and medication,

The dermatologist has told me I can expect to loose up to 20%,

Which feels like all of it.

She told me I’ll have less fall out and more grow in faster if I use Rogaine,

Has anyone used it or had any success with a similar product?

My Aunt is losing a lot of her hair.
There was a term her doctor used.
I’m not sure which treatments he recommended.
I’m going to ask her and get back to you @GoldenRex.
I’m pretty sure that stress was the factor.

I lose a lot of hair too. My hair is fine and when I make a ponytail, it is really very thin.
Maybe I am used to it.

Do you naturally have a lot of hair or is it already pretty thin?

I use thickening creams and volumizing shampoo.

I have pretty thick hair,

So its been a shock for me.

I’m really hoping the Rogaine makes a difference.

I think the term for generalized hair loss was “alopecia” whereas localized hair thinning (like receding hairline) is called calvition?

My hair is thinning. My dads is too. I think it runs in the family

Don’t let that stuff dribble down your face and back, or you’ll have a face beard all over and be hirsuite like me.

Solid advice,

Thanks!

Personally, I have embraced baldness and shave it all off, but I am male. African ladies can pull the same look off, but yet to see a cuacasian do the same with the same confidence.

Good luck with the rogaine!

the only thing I did was change my diet. I found that all the veggies slows the thinning/balding process. I’ve never tried rogaine, but am thinking about getting a year supply to thicken my beard, as I hear its effective for that. for me, what’s on top of my head is a lost cause so I don’t worry about it. hopefully you have good results, best wishes

I know a few trans men who use rogaine on their faces to try and fro facial hair. It seems to work out well for them, but it takes a while for it to take effect. I assume it works more quickly on places where hair already grew.

Also, I know you probably took care of this already, but did you check with a general physician to make sure the hair loss is a medication problem, and not a sign of a more serious underlying condition?

Are you gonna take this info back to the pdoc?

Yes,

I got a blood panel drawn and am waiting for results.

The dermatologist seemed to think that the meds were thinning my hair,

But the stress is causing the more acute loss.

Now I don’t know how to not be stressed about my hair falling out,

Its a vicious cycle.

@anon20613941,

I already have an appointment to discuss this with him.

I want to decrease my dose and talk about alternatives.

I bought some generic Rogaine a long time ago. It was helping, but I ran out of patience with its. I’ve resigned myself to being bald.

@GoldenRex

Have you had your estrogen levels checked? Low estrogen is associated with female hair loss.

I’m having blood tests done right now,

But the doctor said because of how much hair I’m losing that its very, very likely stress.

However,

I hadn’t thought of that,

I’ll ask my doctor.

Thank you!

My hair has been falling out since I was about 48 years old. I am 58 now. I have been using a product called Rogaine 2% solution twice a day, and another product called Viviscal for the last ten years and I have no bald spots but, my photos over the last ten years show that my hair has definitely thinned out over the years. That’s why I wear my hair short and I always tell my hairdresser to cut it into a pixie cut. It makes it look fuller that way. And, the pixie looks good on me.
