Are federal student loans worth it?

Have any of you gotten one? And if so, are they worth it?

In the UK, student loans are not secured loans and act very differently to other types of loans. For us, theyre usually worth it, unless you can access apprenticeships that waive fees altogether.

Sorry if i couldn’t help.

This helps!

I’d like to see others opinion too.

I’m thinking about starting a UK Master via distance learning in September.

However, because I’m a EU citizen I don’t have access to loans.

I’m not sure I know much about federal student loans. In Belgium it’s uncommon to lend for studies. Most students work, get funded by family or get a scholarship. I did all 3 in my initial studies.

I had a fasfa student loan I don’t have to pay back. I also had an unsubsidized loan that I paid back after finishing.

I still have to fill out paperwork to extend the leniency EVERY. SINGLE. YEAR.

It did nothing for me because I got schizophrenia before graduation and wrecked my life.

I had federal student loans but they were all discharged due to me being “permanently and totally disabled”.

It’s a gamble. Or an investment.

They can be a hand up if you get a degree that will get you a job and therefore allow you the chance to pay them back.

Avoid private student loans though. Those aren’t regulated by the government.

I’m considering getting a federal student loan to get a degree in physics. My passion (besides fine art photography) is in physics.

Hmmm. I think engineering would be more marketable, and maybe even easier to study. Most engineering programs require a little bit of physics too.

I just have a passion for physics, I was never really in engineering. At the university nearby they have theoretical and experimental job transfer opportunities for them as well. If I can’t get into science, physics students are also able to get jobs in economics like bankers.

It’s best to try to apply for various scholarships first.
