I have 0 patience unfortunately
Advice and knowledge are two different things.
Regarding the subject in question, a problem which once upon a time was a problem which caused me a significant amount stress. I am telling you that when I became more educated about the subject, the effect it upon me, significantly declined…
Two birds one stone. This is my advice and previous, my knowledge
I had intrusive thoughts in a psych ward and a doctor put me on Propranolol. It’s a blood pressure med used for anxiety.
My antidepressant has helped a little with my intrusive thoughts… some of them are used to treat OCD (aka the obsessive thoughts) and I think intrusive thoughts and obsessive thoughts can be quite similar…
I still get them often, but I think my SSRI has reduced the intensity of them… before, I couldn’t get the intrusive thoughts out of my head until I acted on them. Now it is easier for me to just accept the thought is there and then let it slip away.
Antidepressants and anti-anxiety meds are known to help with intrusive thoughts. But once you’re stabilized on meds, you should look into learning how to accept your intrusive thoughts as meaningless brain glitches and just let them go. The more you worry about them, the worse they will get.
idk about the med, the med is a big help but i put down a lot of my recovery to my own self determination to get better, i mean the little things you can do to try and stop your symptoms from getting worse,
techniques like thought blocking, distraction are great if you can do that, dont dwell on your thoughts, find something else to focus on, i focus on God which is good for me but you can focus on anything,
even short term its good, make goals and focus on them, volunteering is a good way to distract yourself if you are able, college is great and playing and instrument, so many things you could do to distract yourself and focus on other things and try and not let those intrusive thoughts to get in the way, hope this helps.
the important thing: thoughts just happen to you. they don’t define you. let them wander in your mind. if you ignore them they will stop.
the same happens in meditation. you let thoughts happen as they happen. no interference.
Is it cognitive dissonance?
@insidemind cognitive dissonance is something completely different. It is the mental discrepancy between an attitude and behaviour
