So started cleaning out the garage today. Lots of old boxes and rubbish that needs to go to the dump and I want to clean up the whole lot as I spend a bit of time there doing weights. More room and ease of keeping it clean is the goal…
Anyways. I’m breaking down all the boxes in there and getting the usual stuff. Cockroaches and spiders and the whole nine yards. So get to one of the boxes and I almost put my hand on this huge fricken spider. It was huge, with a crazy big abdomen. Didn’t recognise the species as the first half looked like a wolf spider but never seen any that frigging big!
Dare I say I used a broom to push it into a corner then decided that was me for the day! Hate those spiders as there’s a few out here that will really mess you up. That is the news at 11!
Yeah, huge spiders give me the hebee jebees as well. I found a huge one in my closet when I had a basement apartment once. I thought it was a wolf spider at the time but looking on the internet it may have been a fishing spider. Both are common where I live. It had legs like straws and body and head had to be about 4 or 5 inches.
anyway, fortunately, it was really slow. I captured it in a bucket and gave it to my brother in law who owned the building. He said he let it go instead of killing it “out of respect” for its size.
I’m glad I dont live in that crap hole anymore. lol. Too many critters.
Well, i just looked up max size for wolf and fishing spiders and they dont get as big as the one I saw…so it was obviously something else. Maybe it was only 3 inches or so body and head. I may be misremembering. It was bigger than what they say those two can get though.
Yeah. I see my fair share of spiders and this was like this weird hollywood hybrid. I wasn’t sticking around to take a picture though which I should have done. Could have image searched it and found out what it was!
Yeah that looks like a wolf/huntsman we have over here. They can get pretty big. I’ve been trying to find a pic of this one today. Should have grabbed my camera as I can’t find it.
Wow, huge body on that thing. Thats even scarier looking than the one I saw.
Knowing my brother in law, though, he couldve bought one from a pet shop and placed in there to freak me out. lol. It might be a fruitless search trying to find one local if that were the case.
Identification is realtively simple as this very large spider has thicker front legs than back legs. Females live up to thirty years, males up to eight years. The bite is not fatal to a human, but can cause up to six hours of vomiting. The venom can cause death to a dog or cat within thirty minutes .
I’m not trying to derail your thread here, but in that same apartment I found a hamster once. I assumed it escaped from another apartment and found its way in. The more I think logically on it though…maybe my brother in law(landlord with a key) was messing with me, with the spider and hamster . How the hell does a hamster appear in your apartment?
haha. I’m sure they get around. I had some friends who kept hamsters in a cage in the yard. They did get out! Gawd knows how they would have fared with cats and dogs around but I’ve heard it happening! Those arachnids though they get everywhere. Our huntsmen spiders crawl up drains here to get inside.
