I am unemployed, looking for work, and struggling. Maybe I can apply for an evening part time course in the meantime (as long as it doesn’t cost me), I can build new skills and hopefully get into a career that works for me.
What do you want to study in college?
I want to get into finance, so I thought I would try again but this time with in person classes.
Okay. Lots of careers in finance.
Are you good with numbers?
Not particularly, thats why I will start from basics.
Which type of work, you want?
Something like bookeeping.
In your position I did an Access to HE course
1.5 days a week and in a year three A level equivalent qualification
If you’re over 21 they judge circumstances on you and not who lives in your home
Being in a part time or no job means you’ll get every benefit in terms of bursaries and grants to live on and the money is very good if you proceed to study uni level courses
I went to a local place so did not pay rents
Then after you can use it to get a job with
But it’s a big commitment doing this
To me it’s a no brainer
I already did an access course and graduated 2008… before I got unwell… but I need a change of direction and career. I’m tired of doing the same thing. I kinda wish I had picked a different course at the time.
I’m also thinking of bookkeeping at the local college, I probably won’t get funding but it’s affordable even without it. Just about.
I’m gonna start with aat 2 if I get accepted (hopefully)
What does the application procedure consist of?
That’s what I was thinking too. Maybe plumbing for me. And if I ever get better I can use the cert to make money
I’m confused whether I should aat2 book keeping or the aat2 accounting course, aat2 seems like a good place to start
I’m going to attend an interview
There are two different ones? I thought they are the same. But ones more vocational?
Good luck with the interview!
The most important thing is that you are able to convey your enthusiasm for bookkeeping.
Hope you get a place as education can open up so much. I used to claim job seekers allowance while studying at college.
