I’m depressed and just wondering what meds are good for it or what other things might help. Thanks
Ever since my son died, I’ve been on Celexa for depression. It works great!! I also meditate for 15 minutes twice daily and do yoga for 30 minutes every day. These help too. I have had no mood issues ever since the year 2011.
There are so many medicines for depression and they all work differently for different people. You really have to just start trying them until you find the one that works best for you. Other than that if you have enough energy you should try to get some exercise. Make sure your getting the right amount of sleep and eating regular healthy meals. I just started using a full spectrum light bulb at my computer desk for a couple hours a day and it is actually helping me quite a bit. I really recommend it.
This time of the year, one always has to be suspicious of vitamin D3 deficiency as a contributing factor. Most depressions can be successfully managed with meds these days. If untreated, according to my family doctor, most depressions go away in 9-15 months.
All the medications I take help with my depressive episodes (Latuda, lithium, Lexapro, Clozaril).
Taking in some morning sunshine helps (or a light box).
Doing something you love, like for me would be going for a ride and getting coffee.
Mine didn’t go away after nine to fifteen months. Mine hung on for years and years.
Yeah, it always comes down to the individual. Everybody’s different. That’s just what my general doctor told me. There’s always exceptions.
Yeah medication LOL. Zoloft worked very well for me but gave me long lasting bladder problems. I’m on depakote now and it’s working very well and I get no side effects. Really you can start with anything.
I’ve been in many different kinds of therapy and tried just about everything you could try before meds including lifestyle changes and absolutely nothing stopped my depressive episodes except medication. Therapies and stuff can teach you how to cope with depression but do not relieve you of it, sort of like if you broke your leg and had the option to either learn how to use it despite the pain or just got painkillers instead. Obviously the painkillers are more attractive because then you don’t even have to worry about having to function despite the pain.
I’d still recommend therapy so you can learn to cope while you’re finding the right med for you which can take a long time.
