Just checking if anyone of you has mild schizo and is able to function without medicine, how do you cope?
There’s no mild. It’s sz. Function is usually described by meds. Some recover from first episode psychosis and do ok without meds. If you’ve symptoms still it’s most likely meds for life.
Many on meds with milder symptoms do well with life. It’s not a deal breaker these days and you might be surprised that many do well with severe symptoms and meds…
This is a pro medication website because it makes sense in the total scheme of things. It works.
I have a friend who stop hearing voices after 7 years and he stopped medicine 2 years in. There are articles online saying people tend to do better over time.
Personally,my schizo got better and I just need a minimal dose of antipsychotic compared to 2 years ago
Minimal dose is the key. Don’t stop without a doctors guidance. Chances are you come back and meds don’t work as well. You need more of a dose to get the same result. That is the problem with psych meds…it really is a big gamble to stop.
I had a psychotic episode when I was 17 and was on AP’s for two years and discontinued successfully
I then relapsed at 23, and that was really bad and was not treated promptly, and led to great suffering as I had no support at all for much of it.
It really depends on the person. I’d be tempted to discontinue meds after a first episode, but as @rogueone says you may end up being on them long term if it comes back.
They wanted me to be diagnosed when I was 17, but they chose not to. Not sure why.
I do question their decision making at the time, as it was really really bad.
If you feel you can go off them speak to your doctor
I don’t have any positive symptoms but full of negative symptoms and not taking any medication yet though I experiencing negative symptoms for over 16 years now.
How long did you have positive symptom for when it started
Have you tried sarcosine
I have not experienced any positive symptoms yet. Only negative symptoms which worsen over the years.
I tried sarcosine family supplements like DMG, TMG etc and it helps to reduce negative symptoms.
How come you are diagnosed with schizo if you have never experienced any positive symptoms to begin with
It was called simple sz before, now sz also includes negative symptoms only without positive symptoms.
I am not sure if i have schizo, bipolar or some other. Anyway my negative symptoms are so real its like a mild version of catatonic schizo. I first thought it was ocd but now realize ocd developed due to increasing catatonic symptoms.
I don’t think there is mild schizo. If someone had a diagnosis of sz and they are functioning without medication…chances are it’s a misdiagnosis.
I had high doses and low doses. The problem is that i relapsed when i had very low doses. But the docter had to try low doses. But it is always a risk.
My friend is able to function without medicine 2 years in even though he still hear voices. There are online articles also about people recovering fully and remained in remission about 10% of the patients
10% not much! Bjshshawhah
Typically, we like to leave inactive threads alone and just start a new thread instead. This is different than how some forums are run, but we do it this way because it frequently upsets users to have old topics revived when they are no longer relevant. It can also be frustrating to the person who revived the thread when they don’t get a reply, because the original poster is no longer active or no longer finds the topic relevant. Feel free to start a new thread on this topic.
