Anyone tried intermittent fasting?

Looking for experiences on it.
I keep putting on weight, and I don’t even feel like I eat that much. Been having two meals with a snack, sometimes only two meals. Still end up putting on weight.

My doctor suggested I try IF to see if it would help. Also supposed to cut down on sugar flour and alcohol.
Jeans a size up that I bought this year are already feeling snug after only a few months. I’m kind of getting depserate. Will be asking for diet pills if this doesn’t work.

I am thirty pounds away from my perfect weight and I started from 376…it took me seven years but I just ate on small plates at dinner and supper…eat a decent breafast and drink about six to eight glasses of water a day…that’s how I did it. diet only…no exercise…

I agree with jukebox, that losing weight is all about cutting calories. Exercise is not even needed, however walking and water is beneficial because it cleanses body of toxins created by losing the weight.

Diet pills are a scam, and some are dangerous, containing industrial chemicals. Go out for long walks, but remember calories from food is the main culprit.

I ate a pack of biscuits yesterday and consumed 1350 kcal from it alone.

Snacks add up. Replace junk with fruit or veg, or nuts.

Alcohols are empty calories and is terrible for putting on weight. Even those who aren’t on aps have massive beer bellies, so being on aps you have to be doubly careful.

" Alcohol contains around seven calories a gram - almost as many as pure fat. Calories from alcohol are ‘empty calories’, meaning they have no nutritional value. They don’t benefit our bodies in any way.

My son tried intermittent fasting to get rid of the few extra pounds that he had put on over the winter and it worked great for him. He lost about 10 pounds in two months and that’s all the extra weight he had to lose (he’s pretty fit). I think you should give it a try if your doctor is suggesting it.

It’s hell on people with diabetes, that’s my experience.

My sister lost quite a bit doing intermittent fasting and she said it was quite simple.

Everytime I fast or dont eat carbs I get low blood sugar which makes me dizzy, irritated, shaky and confused. I dont know how others are able to fast or do no carb diet.

Exercise is important, I was eating more on Abilify and was going to the gym 5x/week 1-2hrs, I was 100lb less than now where I stay in bed most of my time no gym bcz of negative symptoms.

I had binge eating on Abilify.
Cardio burns most calories but weight lifting also burns calories and increased muscle mass increases basal metabolic rate.

I can’t fast, because I have type 1 diabetes. If I even skip breakfast and wait until 1pm to eat lunch… well, I already have ketones and my blood sugar starts to go into the 200’s or 300’s even though I haven’t eaten anything yet. Those ketones will be the death of me. I can’t skip meals.

Good luck to you, though. I just don’t have any advice, cause I can’t do fasting.

Do you mean your blood glucose goes low when fasting? Idk why I get low blood glucose symptoms when I forget to eat or when I dont eat carbs. My A1C is 5.7%.

No, it goes very high. It starts to drop… then the ketones kick in and my blood sugar spikes upward. Blood sugars are fragile with type 1 diabetes. I use an insulin pump and CGM.

My mom also uses a pump, I call it her cyborg part.

We almost lost her to keto acidosis about 10 years ago, she was running super high. The pump has been great for her. Hope yours is working well!

I used to fast when I was psychotic. I lost a lot of weight fasting. I had fears of food back then too though also, so I was only eating very specific foods when I did eat , so that may have been part of it. I was also doing a lot of bike riding at the time, so I’m sure that that contributed as well.

You are probably better off just eating small amounts each day IMO. More healthy IMO.

Thanks, Llama! I went into diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) several times, as a teenager. Whoo! I shouldn’t be here right now, but somehow I made it through. I’m glad your mom is doing better.

I took multiple daily insulin shots for 10 years and then finally got an insulin pump!

I call myself a cyborg sometimes, too! :relaxed:

I tried intermittent fasting. The first 4ish weeks I lost weight pretty quickly but then it stopped working

I’ve had issues with blood sugar levels too. Especially if I am doing anything phsyically demanding. I remember fainting when I went skiing years and years ago because my breakfast wasn’t large enough, same with a walk with a friend’s family when I was a teen. That’s probably my biggest concern tbh. If I am doing something physical, I feel like I will need to eat and not do the fasting.

Yes I did it for a couple of years. It straightened out my blood sugar. But I had issues with being able to focus. So if you are doing something that needs cognitive functioning I wouldn’t recommend it. I lost alot of weight but as soon as I quit I gained it all back. My blood sugar is still normal though. If you are working out I recommend the lean gains protocol.
