¿Anyone taking quetiapine (seroquel)?

I’ve been reading on the internet and chatgpt that quetiapine in doses of 100mg or less has little or no affinity for d2 receptors. I think it’s the only one that has this effect. I was wondering if it could perhaps be the solution to my problem of not being able to tolerate antipsychotics. Could anyone who is taking quetiapine give me their opinion?

I used to take it. 100mg is just for anxiety/sleep. It doesn’t act as an antipsychotic .

I read that psychiatrists can prescribe it in doses of 100 mg or less when the person cannot tolerate standard doses of antipsychotics. I already asked my psychiatrist but he still hasn’t answered me.I can’t find any other solution.

Been on it years. If im stressed i will do half of a 300mg to sedate me slightly, or otherwise ill take 100mg of the slow release. Cant sleep unless i do 300mg at night.

It has its uses. Many people i know cant take it, cos it gives them restless legs. It has the added bonus of lessening cravings for alcohol and blocks the effect of drugs like cocaine.

Once in a while I take 25 mg for anxiety or lack of sleep, it works almost too well - a bit sedating.

I’m starting to hate my psychiatrist. He told me that I’m fine with 3mg of vraylar. He didn’t even answer what I asked him about quetiapine. I’m going to change psychiatrists.

I have been taking 200mg Seroquel for 20 years as the only medicine. Earlier I was taking 100mg and it worked antipsychotically, I had no relapse. I have schizophrenia. These small doses block D2 receptors, on 300mg I would have much worse extrapiramidal side effects, than I have now. Look on the wiki, the D2 has 245/196nM affinity, which on the 100mg dose has to make an effect.

I tried low dose of 50-75mg for some small bouts. It had a effect on sleep, but it wore off pretty fast. The half life is only about 6 hours. So if you take it before bed you technically have only about 25% of the dose you took after 12 hours in the body.

I can see it helping if lack of sleep is the main contributor to positive symptoms, but other than that it might not do much, although I have heard a couple of people mention they only took 50mg and was ok on that dose. Apparently they were very sensitive to meds which might explain it.

Personally I had to give it up because it gave me chest pain, even at 50mg, after a while.

@Mr_Hope Both times I took L-Dopa I got sleepy after 2 or 3 hours. And my sleep quality improved, I have fewer nightmares and more pleasant dreams.

@Corian I took about 100 mg and didn’t notice anything. Tomorrow I’ll take 150 and let you know what happens.
