I at times get a sudden heightened sense of smell, and quite possibly hallucinating smells (I cant pin down what the smells are but no one else notices them.) been happening last few days throught the day and night.
Also If I smell a certain distinct real smell, that smell will come back when I am somewhere else and I start wondering where that smell is coming from again.
Today it was , cabbages when I was on the street, then it was weird smells at my house. then other random smells at my gfs house. Last night I had random strong smells that I couldnt pinpoint as well.
I just wanna put vicks up my nose so i can stop smelling things lol ugh
I had smell hallucinations when unmedicated or when using weed. Maybe from alcohol too but not sure. Gasoline, fresh bread, burnt plastic, urine, etc My parents told me that I was hallucinating as they didn’t smell anything.
In 1981 when my illness first started I think I was hallucinating a smell on certain people that I thought was sz . I wanted someone to get a blood hound and train him/ her to pick up the scent that I was smelling. If it were true, who knows where it could lead? @LevelJ1 What is your idea of “smell diaries?”
That’s funny, I get weird smell sensations as well. And funnily enough, it’s mostly the smell of weed I get. Like, it’ll happen randomly in my house (where no weed is being smoked), and I get a strong smell of it. And it brings me back to a time when I was with my old friends smoking weed or something. It’s odd. I think it’s part of the illness.
i have smell hallucinations now and then. It’s weird… you can’t really pinpoint what the smell is and nobody else smells it but still it’s there.
I’ve had that happen a few times. Like, i remember smelling dog crap in my parents’ house when there were no dogs. I even checked my shoes but there was nothing there. Another time i smelled brownies or cake baking but when i went to the kitchen nobody was there and nothing was cooking.
I had smell hallucination when I got my first episode. Everywhere I went there was a sweet-rotten smell. It was disgusting, like I was in a different dimension or something.
This happens to me occasionally especially with bread products. I’m learning to get my kids opinion before I toss stuff. Until I realized that it was a hallucination I tossed a lot of bread
i get weird food ones too, brocolli, cabbage, sour milk. I had the brocolli and sour milk ones since I was like 10 years old I have a memory of it in the kitchen, but nothing of the sort was actually in the kitchen space.Its kind of like the mind predicts it and makes it up.
I think that could be a great solution. When someone is hearing voices, we don’t tell them to just deal with it. We tell them to distract with music or something.
I’ve certainly encountered a heightened sense of smell when smelling real things. For example one day my partner’s cologne absolutely stank to me but it was more like an intense version of the scent he was wearing than a hallucination. I remember thinking it was really weird at the time. Since increasing my antipsychotic the issue has gone away.
