I was meant to get another blood test a few months ago. Apparently my blood cells are smaller than usual, so I might be anaemic. Although I am not sure what type of anaemia I may have. My mother is also anaemic and deficient in iron. I don’t know if it could be genetic. I know sickle cell anaemia is.
i googled it and it mentions a genetic disorder called thalassemia that causes very similar things to anemia but is treated different, apparently with blood transfusions and are actually supposed to avoid iron supplements because the transfusions naturally cause increases in iron levels in the blood and they end up requiring chelation drugs to reduce the iron. it says it is recessive so it means both parents would have the gene even if not affected. thats just some info i got online that i found interesting and relevant tho and not like a suggestion of what you would have haha, definitely keep up w a doctor because blood disorders can be very serious of course
Yeah, I was just reading about that. If it does turn out that my iron is low, I’ll be quite surprised, because I eat meat everyday, which is high in iron.
i would definitely just keep up with a doctor diligently, anemia will also make you feel much more weak and tired, my mom had anemia at one point and would fall asleep sitting upright while working! awful stuff
also this is just a random thing i like to tell people (i hope it doesnt sound know-it-all-y lol), but always consider alternative causes especially if treatments dont work for you! some autoimmune disorders can cause that kind of thing, some doctors have an awful tendency to just ignore health complaints/treatment complaints in patients with mental health issues, my mom gets the shaft constantly because she has severe depression and ocd (and being overweight, but thats a separate issue!)
Thanks for the info. I’ll try to contact a doctor soon. I don’t feel too tired though. Just lazy I guess, so if I do have anemia, it’s defo on the mild side.
My daughter has Thalassemia. It’s anemia but not from iron deficiency.
