Hello, is there anyone here from Brazil? I was just wondering how mental patients in this country are doing. Like how much do medications cost and what type of health care there is.
Immediately the most offensive joke popped into my mind. Nothing racial though. People from Brazil with schizophrenia might even find it funny but I won’t take that chance.
I think @DelusionalSoldier is from Brazil
Hello, @BlackWolf885! I’m from Brazil. Are you Brazilian too?
Medicines are a bit expensive here.
Hello, no, I’m Bulgarian, but I want to know more about the health care system in Brazil. I live in Germany and here the medications are very cheap under the health care system. I want to move to Brazil or Portugal, and that’s why I’m learning Portuguese right now. I don’t like it here in Germany, because the weather sucks, it’s always dark, cold and depressing.
I can’t remember the exact costs of my medicines, but a box of 30 capsules of aripiprazole 10 mg costs around to R$ 350. It’s around to U$ 85.
Good psychiatrists charge around to R$ 350 too (U$ 85). Good psychologists charge around to R$ 200 for each session (U$ 50 each session).
I would say you would have a cost of around R$ 1850 (U$ 447) a month with mental health here in Brazil (if we consider buying two boxes of antipsychotics, monthly psychiatrist and 4 sessions with a psychologist).
The problem here is that our wage is very low. A regular job with no degree requirement pays just around to R$ 1200 (U$ 290). But if you have an engineering degree, you may earn R$ 4000 (U$ 1000).
Edit: fortunately, I use just half a box of aripiprazole a month, consult with my psychiatrist each 2 months and I’m not going to therapy, so I have a cost of just R$ 350 a month with mental health (U$ 85).
