I’m switching my antipsychotics from risperdal to vraylar. I’m doing this because I’m still gaining a bunch of weight, even after only eating about 1,000 calories a day and exercising regularly. Since being on medication, I’ve gained 165 pounds.
But there’s a catch. I’m only 17, and vraylar is only approved for adults. So, my psychiatrist is giving me free samples until I turn 18, which is in September. This should also prove to the insurance company that it’s safe for me to be on it and that its effective.
Has anyone else been on this medication before, or are you currently taking it? If so, what has been your experiences with it?
I’m on it and it was rough with insomnia at first, but now I think I’m going to stay on it. I think I have more thoughts and more conversation. Plus it’s been about 5 months and I haven’t slipped into pyschosis or anything.
You know something I haven’t really weighed myself in this time, but I feel like that’s a positive for Vraylar. Granted I was on Haldol and I know for sure that is weight neutral.
I take 3 mg of vraylar. I’ve been on it awhile, and it’s been good. I take it in addition to my main AP, latuda. I’ve had no side effects from vraylar, and it’s really helped with paranoia.
I took 6mg of vraylar for about two months. I wound up having a psychological emergency because it made me suicidal. NEVER even thought that could happen on a drug that people seem to have a lot of success on.
It was terrible for me, but it could work for you, just monitor your mood.
I couldn’t because my psychiatrist hadn’t even hear of it until then, so he didn’t know much about it. Vraylar supposedly helps with OCD too, which I need.
I take 3mg each morning and it keeps my something mild voices and paranoia away.
Also, if i try to abuse amphetamines, they do not seem to have much effect, which is good because i do not crave them so much.
I’m talking tomorrow to pdoc about lumateperone because we’re gonna see if she can get a start on the insurance reauthorize when it comes out end of March. But if the rep hasn’t even dropped samples off to office yet, Mercy won’t let her write for it as it’s an unknown drug to them. I have to wait for Mercy to get their ass kissed before care will be considered. That’s what my pdoc said, she is very irritated. But if somehow we get the paperwork rolling, she is thinking of writing for lowest dose and next dose up 1 each day that way if the office shuts cause of Coronavirus like has been talked about, she’ll write 2 months of each dose if insurance will pay it. My records are open to insurance office, I have failed all drugs and am med resistant, this is supposed to be the fix. And if they approve both doses they may even do a year for free for each dose. But my next year will give me a heart attack.
I’m also having her do as many xanax refills as she can, if anything adding a third pill a day so I have a PRN if she’s locked out of office. Also my Belsomra 15mg doesn’t make me tired, may have to up and if we do then ask for several refills if possible.
I know the Belsomra is another reauthorize because they have maybe 5 peoe in it in the whole practice. And I’m highest freaking dose.
Not that I can see, but that’s also because I’m still on risperdal, and will be for a couple of weeks. But after that I’ll see what Vraylar is made of.
Yep, and nothing wrong has happened, so that’s a good sign. I’m now on 3mg of Vraylar because I just got done with 1.5mg. Now I’m waiting for the discontinuation of risperdal. Hopefully that’ll be easy on me.
