Anybody takes 5mg or 7.5mg Olanzapine/Zyprex?

I’m thinking about a switch of med again becauss I had agitation and anxiety from Amisulpride 200mg. I am wondering if Olanzapine would be better for concentration. Does anybody take 5mg-7.5mg Olanzapine/Zyprex? How do you feel about the side effects of this med? Could you sit still long enough to do reading and writing?

I take 15 mg. No reading. Only creative writing. Nothing long with a structure. Can’t sit still either.

Used to take 5 mg. I gained so much weight there was little else I could do but sit on my fat hyperlipidosic ass and read. Then again I never had much trouble reading.

It was fine other than the incredible weight gain and hyperlipidosis. Some dizziness while I was titrating up, mainly just ravenous hunger and crazy weight gain. Not sure if I wouldn’t have the cholesterol problems that still persist without it. Prepare to buy a whole new wardrobe along with it. I still have whole pile of fat pants that I hang onto in case I have to go on it again.

Here’s link to a slightly irreverent review of the drug.

Isn’t the therapeutic dose 10mg?

I take 200mg Amisulpride daily now, which is equvalent of 5mg Olanzapine. That’s why I asked about 5-7.5mg Olanzapine.

Hmmm… Probably not a good idea to go sub therapeutic… in general.

your concern has a grain of truth, I think. But I know there are a few people who had been on 5mg olanzapine for more than 10 years.

My diagnosis was changed to SZA and My symptoms are less severe. I was tapered down from higher equivalent typical AP dosages.

Therapeutic dosages are averages and guidelines, unless you are a trained and experienced psychopharmacologist there are nuances to dosing that a layman reading a drug sheet would miss.

I was on 10mg of Olanzapine for a time and it made me extremely chilled out, a very smooth and relaxed feeling, similar to how Risperidone felt for me in the beginning, just able to sit and “be” and enjoy it. My concentration and memory were not very good on it though and at the time I blamed that on the meds, but it could have been symptoms, I don’t know.
