Am switching to Olanzapine and feel a brighter future

I am making a med switch from Amisulpride to Olanzapine. It’s been 2 weeks since I started 5 mg Olanzapine. Feeling calmer and less tired. Now I can do reading and writing longer time during the day. Hopefully I can complete my writing project in three years.

Just let you guys know Olanzapine works for me as a better choice.

I’ve been on it since 1997 and it worked for me. I was so far gone the doctors told my mom I probably wouldn’t recover. In the hospital they gave me a massive dose of haldol in an injection. It brought me out of psychosis but I could not function on the stuff. It turns you into a zombie. My mom found me another doctor and he put me on 5 mgs of Olanzapine formally known as Zyprexa. After a year I quit taking it. I thought I was all better and since it was such a low dose I didn’t need it anymore. I ended up with psychosis again. It took 30 days after I quit taking it again for psychosis to hit. I asked the doctor why it took 30 days. Zyprexa is stored in you fat cells once it works it’s way out of your system psychosis can hit again. Just so you know how it works. I take it almost every day but I’ll skip a dose here or there with no problems. Since my second psychosis I’ve been on 10 mgs. You get use to it after a while. If you’re doing better and decide you don’t need it a word to the wise psychosis could come back. A lot of people gain weight from the drug but I haven’t had to much of a problem. I’ve gained about 20 lbs over the years. Long term the drug can cause diabetes and cholesterol problems. I drink a ton of coffee in the morning to fight the sedation effects and I put a lot of sugar in it. I’ve been told I’m borderline diabetic. It’s been 22 years since my last psychosis. After the one relapse I’m dedicated to it for life. It took me a long time to recover from my last psychosis and I wouldn’t want to chance having another one.

I took amisulpride and olanzapine and once my pdoc wanted to try me on olanzapine only but it didn’t work and I needed to go on amisulpride again. But I found stopping the olanzapine didn’t help either. I need both for different symptoms.

Good luck with your med change. I hope it works out for you!
