I like a few authors but have never really enjoyed reading in general and mostly because I don’t enjoy reading stuff that doesn’t come from those handful of authors… I know I’m selling myself short on that, but really if a book doesn’t keep my attention I put it down.
Read a lot of Vonnegut and Asimov… read all of the Ender’s Shadow series. William Gibson’s stuff is the best sci-fi ever written. Really though I struggle to read anything else aside from internet stuff.
I am addicted to used book stores. And I just got a kindle, which makes it so easy. Just click and get a new book! I don’t read as much as I used to, though.
I don’t really have much real-life friends, and most electronics like TV, video games, movies, music, pictures, etc are things that I believe give out unwanted messages or too much information. but books and words are very comforting and open.
I bought and read a lot of books about samurai Budo and zen. And collected swords.
But I’m over it all. I should sell it all back to Amazon too. It was illness related so I want to let it go
New hobby is ham radio. So I bought books on that.
And passed the extra test.
I hope to do more next year as work goes away.
I have a bookshelf full of science and math books. Also a little bit of philosophy books. I have read most of them but I have forgotten most of the things I have read. Also online I read a ton of manga.
I bought a lot of books on Spirituality/Religion in order to prevent bad things from happening to me and family.
I tried to cover all the bases as much as possible.
I also bought books that I might read, but I struggle to read a book all the way through. I go from book to book to book.
I’ve been finding a bunch of wonderful books going cheap at the various thrift stores in Siloam Springs. I’ve bought a fair number of them. I found a hard back copy in perfect condition of “All Quiet on the Western Front” for two dollars. I found a copy of Ralph Ellison’s “Invisible Man” for $0.85. I found a “Complete Works of Jane Austen” for two dollars in hardback. I found a copy of the Koran, and Hitler’s “Mein Kampf”. I found a “Complete Works of William Shakespeare” in hardback for $3.00. I’ve found lots of other books too. Maybe someday I’ll get around to reading them. Lately I have been reading short stories. This woman who was in our apartment program left behind a huge amount of books when she left. They’re all packed up in milk crates out in the hall, together with the books I’ve bought.
I have a huge collection of sci-fi that I’ll probably never re-read. I’ve lost the reading bug. I should probably donate them and just keep the must-haves and DIY informational books I’ve got. They take up so much space. My bf could use the bookshelf space more than my old, used books.
I started going to library when I was like 8 years old. I would pick up a bunch of books in kids section and read it. By the years my taste got better and now when I’m professional reader I can’t get lost in the fictional world (or any other, for that matter) without looking for ideology behind it.
Unfortunately im not able to focus on book for a long time.
A 4th grade student teacher got me hook on reading. Most of my fiction books I give away. I keep my nonfiction. I do have a hard time reading now and it take me a very long time to read a book.
One time my wife said I should get rid of my books. I got rid of my wife.
My trick was to just read one sentence and then congratulate myself.
Then try a whole paragraph, if that’s all I could do I would stop and say to myself,
Good Job, try another day.
