My teenagers definitely have anxiety and depression. I think many kids do, especially after the year we all just had.

I lm talking like need medication… everyone is sad and scared it’s only a sickness once it impairs their life. And idk I feel like it’s just perpetuated in our society.

@Ninjastar but like I said it just makes me sad. It’s not hard to tell if someone is legitimately depressed and have a anxiety disorder. And I’ve seen people fake it, people I grew up with admitted to me they were faking it. But I don’t wanna insult anyone.

It is very hard to tell. I think it’s far more common for people to fake not having anxiety/depression than to fake having it.

But if everyone has it how is it an illness, I’m sorry you obviously don’t agree with me and I don’t want to upset you so I’ll stop if you want me to @Ninjastar

I do think there is an issue with overmedicating kids for exhibiting normal kid behaviors, rather than working with them on learning healthy ways to express themselves. But the pressure we put kids under makes them prime candidates for developing mental illness early on.

I fully agree with you here. To me, the problem is that our society is structured in a way that is incompatible with happy and healthy life.

The world has pretty much always been chaos what’s going on now isn’t abnormal for society. The only thing that has changed in that generation is the internet. Idk man…

Wow we said the same thing. Lmao

I guess it was just an impulsive post I really hope I didn’t offend anyone I wasn’t trying to

The internet is the big change, yeah. And along with it has come an intense increase in expectations. When i was a kid, if I said something stupid, I got made fun of and then everyone moved on. My friend’s kid just said something stupid on facebook and was almost expelled from school for it, because an administrator saw.

Kids are now expected to do work and turn it in on weekends, electronically. If they are sick, they still have to sign on remotely. There are no more snow days. Kids MUST have volunteer hours, jobs, and an extra cirricular in order to be considered for most colleges.

I get what you’re saying. I expect to much from kids I guess. The only problem I have with it is I feel like they’re throwing their sanity away and that is what upsets me. This is coming from a place of love not malice just want you to know that @Ninjastar

I remember having parents asking us why we didn’t have our kid in umpteen sports and scheduling every minute of her life? Uh, because that’s not healthy. We had her in 4H and she did archery by her own choice. We didn’t spend every waking minute outside of school hours driving her to and from sports like the ball/hockey/dance parents.

Welp. I feel like a scumbag now

It’s parents wanting to show off their perfect kids, not parents wanting the best for their kids.

Is there a way I can delete this thread? I legit feel like a complete piece of ■■■■.

I do think a lot of kids talk about having anxiety or depression without understanding what it really is. But if they have had the opportunity to learn something about how severe it has to be and what the symptoms are, I don’t think many kids (or people in general) would lie about having a mental illness. And if they do, it’s most likely because they have pretty severe problems in other areas but can’t express them.
