5I am so worried about taking this medication my prof prescribed to me because of these many side effects in the long run. Especially such as when I read the article from Dr. Cara Tannenbaum, Leslie Kernisan, MD, the Geriatric expertsThey talk about many o the lists of medications are cause Alzheimer. There are 1) Anticholinergic. 2) Benzodiazepine like Klonopin(Clonazepam), Valium, Xanax, Flurazepam(Dalmane) etc. I think these Benzodiazepines should take out of the medications market, sine it cause harms for many patients who has mental illness. I keep telling, trying to tell my pdoc that I don’t feel comfortable or want to take this Klonopin but she doesn’t listen to what I asked and I desperately need her help to get me out of this drug. I feel that when I take this medication it made me wake up in the middle of the night around 1-2 a.m. And during the daytime some day when I take it, it made me more depressed, someday is not. I will meet with her this week and tell her my problem again, but I don’t know what is she gonna do with me. My older sister has a Alzheimer decease, which I told my pdoc that I don’t want to end up have Dementia problem like my sister, and please provide me with different medications.
I didn’t know that about klonopin. What dose does your dr have you on? Maybe it’s not enough to worry about
I think it’s true it does increase the risk which is why they don’t like keeping you on it too long. Recently came completely off Klonopin but I know I definitely needed it for quite some time there. I was definitely a Slave to it not as in a bad way as much as u thought but I needed it 2x daily to freaking function at all.

Alzheimer’s will be cured relatively sooner than later. I think it will be cured prematurely compared to other major diseases they can already reverse Alzheimer’s in mice or rats. So I’m thinking they will cure it in the next 20 years.
She prescribed 0.5 mg tablet, 2 times daily. Morning and night time, but at night time around 1-3 am I will awake then I have a hard time to fall back to sleep. Which before I didn’t on this Klonopin I slept throughout the night. Like today I took 1 pill at 8 am and now 3 pm My depression is getting worse. She said Klonopin will last almost 12 hours compare to Lorazepam. Bu Lorazepam I used to take .5 mg as needed , which that time I didn’t know it part of Benzodiazepines, and somehow with Lorazepam I didn’t have problem that much like Klonopin. The pharmacist told me that I should only take Klonopin for a few months only. I told my pdoc that but she still wanted to put me on until March 2019. Each refill QTY: 60 and still 3 more refills until March 2019. The thing is I am on Klonopin for .5 mg because My body is very sensitive to these psyche drugs.
I’m on 2mg of Klonopin daily and I don’t have any side effects except mild sedation. It really helps my anxiety.
I was on 0.5mg clonazepam for a year. I had a really difficult time coming off it. It loses effectiveness after a while but you become physically addicted to it so you have to taper off it.
Benzos are really only for short term use.
Now, I am 57 years old. My sister she has been having Alzeimer decease when she turned 67. I hope they can find the cure for this decease sooner instead of the next 20 years.
