I just watched this documentary on how the system encourages us to eat unhealthy to fuel the money machine. As poor health is expensive. It was on Netflix and very convincing . Any one have any success ?
What is the documentary called?
I tried veganism for 6 months back in 2007. Hard… and eating Tofutti products sucked bigtime. Soy Ice Cream and other meat substitutes abounded. Ultimately, I realized that it wasn’t for me, plus, my family stigmatized against me bigtime.
I transferred from veganism to vegetarianism, then went back to the life of the omnivore. When I was vegetarian, I did find one WONDERFUL product called ‘Prosage’. It’s a Worthington Foods substitute for sausage. It’s textured vegetable protein, but it has eggs in it. It tastes really good. Made tacos, Stromboli and ‘meat sauce’/spaghetti all the time. Loved the stuff, but had to ship it in from Washington state because no one local carried it.
Just a word of caution, soy products are not good for you as they raise estrogen levels. I think almond milk is a better alternative and cows. Milk still the best
I was a vegan for approximately 8 months .
It is a strict way of life and I was a ethical vegan so I did not wear leather or use yarn in those days.
I eat meat again now and dairy .
My mum and I became vegans together.
She is still a vegan .
She is disappointed I did not stay a vegan like I said I would.
Eating cheese after eight months without was a touch ecstatic.
I try to eat well and not too much cheese etc as I’m trying to lose a few kg.
I believe in a flow etc
I don’t know how I believe with meat industry etc but I do care .
I pray about it sometimes.
Every now and then I wonder if I should go vegan again or atleast vegetarian but for now I eat as I eat.
I do care though.
I reckon care about palliative care, about environment, animals and quality of life etc
For now I pray and give thankzzz for our food.️
I was a vegan shopper/consumer but I’m not anymore but I still do care.
Good wishes!
If I eat too much soy I feel gay. I’m not gay but that’s just it affects me.
Many people now are trying to make fortunes on vegan products, healthy food and everything. I don’t like the idea. I’d love to eat veggies only, but it’s too expensive for me, I simply can’t afford it. And I like meat. I feel for the vegan cause but I’m not sure I’ll be able to give up meat up and for all
I’m a pescatarian, but I eat a ton of vegan meals, and they’re delicious! I highly recommend Morningstar products, because they’re pretty cheap, they taste good, and they’re not trying to pretend to be real meat. Imitation meat is awful, because it never tastes quite right. But veggie burgers that are supposed to taste like different vegetables are fantastic!
Was the documentary you watched called Food, INC? It is a really gross documentary. and it’s true. The number of outbreaks of contaminated food in recent times is ridiculous. And vegetables aren’t safe, either, because of the runoff from the animal farms,
I’m not vegan but I tried the veggie burgers and I think they taste great. Though I was vegan for 3 years but it was hard reading all the ingredients checking if they were vegan or not. I got hospitalise and put on medication and now I eat whatever I like. I love fish sooooo much I don’t think I could give it up.
I have respect for vegan lifestyle!
That’s a myth that’s all over the internet. The estrogenlike compounds in soy don’t raise estrogen levels, unless you eat tons of it, like all day. Estrogen in cows milk is a different type, that actually raises your estrogen levels a lot.
I have been a vegetarian for nearly all my life. I found veganism simply too difficult. I felt very weak when I had to study or go anyhere really.
For those who don’t want to completely give up meat
I eat animal products rarely I avoid it as much as possible.
I am currently eating lots of fruits and seeds mainly.
I do not crave any animal product and I simply do not like the idea of killing for food. We do not have to: in this century. It is only so difficult as almost all the products are meat and animal based, even chocolate?!
Yesterday I tried finding a juice with no sugar, imagine. And I could not find one. It is impossible and illogical. Maybe because my taste buds are different I guess Who knows?!
That’s interesting…I never thought of that. Even though healthy food is more expensive, it probably saves money in the long term to eat healthy and be healthy as a result.
Unless of course insurance pays for it.
But still you should want to be healthy regardless of what the economics of it says so you can live a long enjoyable life!
I tried out vegan for a while but switched to vegetarian because I was worried I would miss some crucial vitamins. It is very hard to get vitamin B12 from a non-animal source. I am still vegetarian these days and quite a few of my meals are completely vegan. If anyone wants some of my tofu, tempeh, or seitan recipes, let me know The main secret to making a good vegan dish is all in the sauce and the veggies. They have most of the flavor of the dish, not the tofu, etc. Also, don’t think of the tofu, etc as a substitute for meat in taste. It is not and will not ever taste like meat. Treat it as its own thing with its own cooking style and you will be much happier with the results.
I’ve been vegan for 5 years now.
I’m a terrible example though, because I also have an eating disorder, so I’m not very healthy.
I’m trying.
I love veggies and fruits so much … and I dont eat meat.
I agree it’s more expensive being vegan.
Cashew cheese, soy sausage etc
I love tempeh
I used to eat tempeh , broccoli with garlic and pasta a lot when I was vegan.
I admit a enjoy eating meat and dairy but I do care .
So for anyone interested in watching it. It’s called. What The Health. On Netflix @Ninjastar
