I quit both cold turkey years ago.
I am trying cold turkey with alcohol and weed. This will be my second day if I make it. I have been using both daily for going on 2 years straight.
I also vape and will continue to for now as I am already trying to stop the major things like alcohol and weed.
I am taking lots of vitamin supplements that help me with energy and I hope they will help keep me going.
If I am succesful I will stop the vaping of nicotine also and already have nicotine gum that I am trying to use to help me cut down and stop.
Not condoning the taking of nicotine and weed but there are worse things to be addicted to.
I quit nicotine by first moving away from smoking cigs to vaping, and then stopped vaping cold turkey.
Maybe check out one of their online meetings.
IDK, people do it though.
Sever ties with “friends” who invite you to have a puff together. Weed is bad. Nicotine isn’t great either.
Block your dealer’s number on your phone.
Resort to assisted living house or move in with a relative who doesn’t smoke. It’s easier to slip back into old habits when you’re alone.
In one of the courses I followed, I learned to look at addiction as a ‘chronic illness’ that needs to be managed.
Don’t know if I agree but it’s an interesting way to look at it.
I still smoke cigarettes (or better to say “glo”) but I quitted weed.
My main motivation was to become less symptomatic. To bring my life back. To be more stable.
It all starts in our heads. You have to want it very much.
If you want to stop smoking cannabis you will the withdrawal even after heavy use is bearable. I’ve never tried to stop nicotine. I’m guessing you have to replace it with something else.
I quit nicotine gradually by setting up regular weekly rewards for not smoking. I used lozenges for a couple years but I found that easier to give up than the initial process of giving up smoking. I bought myself a small stereo as a reward after I went a whole year without smoking.
I think DBT therapy is really good for addictions and anxiety and wish I had it available earlier in my illness.
I quit too cold turkey saying to self,
“If I cant get a miracle, I will make one”.
I carried along some thing along with me which helped me stop. Its a religious article.
I just speak of it because you got to trust in something !
I know religion is not allowed to be spoken of here, but it helps for me !
Every one is different, you will find your reason to stop if you want to really stop.
Getting off weed is as easy as not buying more weed.
It’s not like heroin.
Cannabis doesn’t make you physically dependent.
Nicotine is more difficult.
I haven’t fully given it up myself,
But every year I spend a month at my parents house where I cannot use nicotine or cannabis.
It has never been a problem to just drop them both.
Every once in a bit I’ll have a nicotine craving,
Still am able to refrain from using it.
Tell yourself it’s not going to be as difficult as you think and it won’t be.
I agree with Charles. The reality is that there is no physical addiction. Whatever’s leading you to continue to smoke weed even if you don’t want to continue to do so has to be habitual then. Just stop buying it
Replace it with something. Like soda or whatever something else that’s horrible
…and get the people you use them with as well as dealers numbers etc out your life.
I’m off weed right now because I don’t have money to buy. I inadvertently tapered off. I suggest trying that. Also keeping your mind busy is important.
I don’t have any suggestions for nicotine though as I’ve never used it. Sorry.
The main reason i quit weed was that i had to deal with total scumbags to get hold of it - and i was resenting doing £100 a week on the stuff. It can be done.
Booze is the demon on my shoulder.
There is a saying here, booze is the pee of the demon and smoke is the fart
I gave it up for 30 days while I was in the hospital. Didn’t seem to notice any symptoms of withdrawal at the time. If you wanted to replace it, why not smoke CBD flower? It might help and skip the THC.
