Antipsychotics, insomnia and cognitive impairment

Hello,

I am pretty much desperate about my medication.

I have been taking Zyprexa then Saphris for a long time but they cause a lot of cognitive impairment which really doesn’t help me at the job.

So my psychiatrist gave me Rexulti 3 mg last autumn and the cognitive impairment problem was solved but I started having a severe insomnia problems, waking up at 3 am every night and not sleeping afterwards. My psychiatrist tried many other medications to make me sleep with Rexulti like Seroquel 100 mg and many others but that didn’t help at all. So I had insomnia for months.

So my psychiatrist changed Rexulti for Latuda 80 mg in the beginning of January and it didn’t help so much. I still don’t sleep after 3 am and now it also takes me many hours to fall asleep. My psychiatrist is actually making me take aluvil which help me fall asleep but I still don’t sleep after 3 am.

So it seems like all the antipsychotics which don’t cause a cognitive impairment are all causing me severe insomnia. I don’t understand why.

Do you have any idea of an another antipsychotic which I could try?

My psychiatrist is beginning to give up and is thinking about putting me back on Zyprexa. I am very disappointed because I am feeling very bad on this drug.

Thanks

Try taking L-theanine, it improves my sleep. + 3 mg Melatonin

I take 6 mg of Melatonin at night three hours before bed. I also take 200 mg of Seroquel three hours before bed. I get plenty of sleep every night. Like around nine hours or even more every night. If I had to work, I would just use an alarm clock and I would be fine. But I can’t work because I get debilitating migraines every day. And my MI makes me inappropriate in word and deed.
