I am seeing a new psychiatrist in two days. I am currently prescribed wellbutrin, lamictal in the am and vistaril at night time. Part of me feels like I need an antipsychotic, but feel the weight gain would be horrible for my depression. I don’t want to gain weight. Does anyone have experience with this me can add some insight?
I remember when they put me on Celexa, it did wonders for my depression but I gained 20 lbs in a month. I felt like I was starving all the time. The only anti depressant I’ve been able to take that works for my depression and has no weight gain is Prozac. Wellbutrin made me feel homicidal so I wasn’t on that one very long. I take Abilify, Haldol, Risperidone, Prozac, and a couple of anti-anxiety pills. My weight tends to be pretty stable, while heavier than I should be, I don’t get much of a yo-yo effect. Also, I started lifting weights in the last year and I’ve lost close to 30 lbs. I’m not sure I’m answering your question…maybe I’m just frothing at the mouth now. Sorry.
Some gain weight on Abilify some lose weight. I’ve been pretty much the same weight when I got Abilify. Zyprexa (AP) and Remeron (anti depressant) made me gain 30+ kg. Stopped counting when I passed 100 kg. Now I have lost about 20 of those kilos by training. Walking one hour/day.
Well, don’t worry until your doctor feels the same way.
I’m on abilify too and it’s supposed to be weight neutral, but my appetite has definitely increased. I’m fighting it by dieting.
Latuda has the least weight gain of the newer antipsychotics due to its lack of h1 activation. I gained weight on Latuda at first but it stopped and was only like 10 lbs
I gained a lot of weight on Olanzapine. Since I switched to Abilify my weight stabilised but I’m struggling to loose weight.
