Antidepressants that dont work on serotonin

I have TRS and my AP helps 70-80% with voices ect, But i also have had depression for years, I cant take ssri because they send me into a manic frenzy. So i was wondering has anyone found anything for depression that works? can be prescribed or natural.

You can ask your doctor about trying Lamictal.
It’s a mood stabilizer with very strong Antidepressant properties.

Wellbutrin (med)
5HTP (supplement)
St. John Wort (supplement)
L-Tryptophan (supplement)

Are a few that come to mind

There are many more, just Google “natural serotonin supplements”

theres wellbutrin that acts primarily on norepinephrine and to a lesser extent dopamine, and if you live in much of europe or australia/nz theres a purely norepinephrine acting antidepressant called reboxetine, not available in the us tho

I’m schizoaffective and had to quit taking Depakote because of my Liver. I take Bacopa, Ashwagandha, and Gotu Kola for my mood now and I feeling amazing. I highly recommend it. I started with the liquid droppers to see if I liked it first then the pills are much stronger. They help with your memory and stress too.

What sort of dosages do you take and what time do you take the meds?

Did you try Milk Thistle (sylimarin) for the liver?
A friend of mine reversed his liver problem with a combo of
TUDCA, sylimarin, artichoke leaf powder and bitter melon powder.

Does the manic frenzy have psychosis type hypo-mania?

Maybe the SSRI triggers some type of serotonin syndrome? Do you take any other meds apart from the AP? Also some foods can cause SS. HAve you tried a micro dose of the SSRI?

No I haven’t tried Milk Thistle. I’ve heard great things about artichoke. When I wake up I take 950 mg of Gotu Kola, 450 mg of Ashwagandha, 500 mg of Bacopa. Then about 5-6 hours later I take 450 mg of Ashwagandha and 500 mg of Bacopa. The Gotu Kola I only use once, The others I use twice. I just had an Ct scan done to my liver and the doctor concluded it was just a fatty liver so losing weight is the biggest thing. I also have a cyst in my kidney that was shown in the scan. It really isn’t a big deal though.

Lithium is good as an add-on for depression. Also Mirapex is supposed to help. The mirapex seems to be helping me.

I just learned something new. I was just looking up Bacopa and it affects your serotonin, but barely. I can really feel the serotonin with Tryptophan and I’d say that Bacopa is about a tenth as strong as that. It’s probably 1/100th as strong as an antidepressant for serotonin.

Apparently niacin boosts your serotonin

Just be careful with serotonin supplements, too much can cause serotonin syndrome

I took niacin and felt like I had an allergic reaction. It says on the bottle it may turn your skin red, but it was a lot worse than that.

@TheBest You probably took a high dose. It’ll go away within time. Personally I like the redness it gives. You can always get flush free niacin
