Antibiotics and schizophrenia

Hello all,

Something very strange happened to me about 2 years ago. I had conjunctivitis and was prescribed chloramphenicol eye drops. The result was astounding. All my symptoms disappeared and I saw the world in 3D! The non stop repeating words in my head stopped and I felt so much better. The chloramphenicol was stopped and I felt awful…but then I was prescribed clindamycin for a spot condition and the same happened again. However two weeks of using this and my symptoms returned suddenly with a vengeance.

I’ve looked on the internet for what could cause such a thing and I only got as far as lyme disease…seems to be the only neurological disorder that can be treated with antibiotics. Any clues…anyone…??

Google “minocycline” and look on the news thread - there’s something about it there. The general gist of it seems to be that anything with an anti-inflammatory effect helps sz symptoms. But not necessarily completely. But an 'anti-inflammatory lifestyle" certainly helps.

Thats pretty interesting... A few months ago C. had hip replacement therapy. After a month, he was unable to get any pain relievers, so he has been living on Advil, Tylenol, Aleve. He has not had his meds in a little over a month, and he is ok ( so far! ) and a little more calm, stopped grinding his teeth. Of course, he is aware of what these could be doing to his liver.... Im checking that article out!

I took an anti-biotic and it only sped up stress to the point I had a real bad episode.

Switch them about with aspirin, which is also excellent and fish oil. Aspirin won’t damage his liver, but it can damage the stomach lining so best to change every week or so.

Yes, I don’t think it works with all antibiotics, only specific ones. But the general inflammation from any infection may make your symptoms worse - look what happened to SurprisedJ last week when he had flu! The same thing happened to my son too.
