Would anti depressants work to improve negative symptoms? Seems to me they would. Any thoughts / experiences?
Zoloft works for a lot of people. Buspirone works well for others for anxiety and restlessness.
When I first started taking Wellbutrin, I had a lot better energy immediately and it helped my focus too.
I’ve taken Zoloft and it had some interesting effects on me as I didn’t know I was bipolar at that point. Still it helped me significantly during a couple periods with severe depression and obsessive thoughts. The withdrawal was really rough though
I took Zoloft briefly and it made me terribly suicidal. I’m sure it works great for a lot of people, though. Wellbutrin has been the best antidepressant for me with minimal side effects; I take the maximum recommended dosage, 450 mg/day. I worry about changing doctors when I move, because I’m afraid my new doctor won’t want to prescribe that much to me, but that’s unfortunately how much it takes.
@Moonwalker, APs seem to act more on positive symptoms, but it would be nice if they could make one that would treat both positives and negatives.
I’ve just read about the plight so many here suffering from negative symptoms, and if anti depressants can help then that should be part of a sz med program … I would think
My fault, I misread your original post. I thought you had written something about APs, not antidepressants, helping with negatives. So I guess you can ignore my last comment.
I think the rule of thumb is that nothing can treat negative symptoms. Ssri’s never helped me. Wellbutrin didnt help me. Abilify kinda masked them a smidge but not helped.
Antidepressants can cause mania. My doctor decided to up my vraylar instead of my cymbalta. He said it was safer/better. I agreed.
