Android phone users: How do you copy apps etc to a new phone?

I always download the apps from the play store and set them up manually again.

There must be an easier way!

I have a Xiaomi phone if that makes a difference.

Any ideas?

Does it not sync with a gmail account?

I forget the ins and outs of the Android ecosystem now, since I switched over to the Dark Side .

It may be possible backing up to google drive but it’s about 25gb of apps and data and that’s going to take forever on my lacklustre internet connection. But maybe that’s my only option.

My brother was able to transfer his iPhone apps using some phone to phone method.

Yes, I can help you
This is how to reload with data apps and thing from other phones as long as they like the Android OS per phone version and are compatible.

watch this you tube video on how it works below :

To transfere between devices : Copy All Apps & Data from Old Android Phone to New Phone - Wired or Wireless - YouTube

To Reload app from store with user profile on new phone/ from old phone :

I hope these help you , but if they done just do following … Which will not keep old data but reinstall old apps :
1.) open store on Android. Login to your account then follow these steps :

2.On your Android phone or tablet, open Google Play Store .
  1. On the right, tap the profile icon.
    4. Tap Manage apps & device. Manage.
    5. Select the apps you want to install or turn on. If you can’t find the app, at the top, tap Installed. Not installed.
    6. Tap Install or Enable.

I just got a new Android phone a coouple months ago. As soon as I turned on the new phone, it did a phone to phone transfer of all files and apps, including my ringtones and alarms. I was doing Samsung to Samsung though.

Huh, I coulda sworn if one had a gmail/google account the apps would automatically be remembered or stored in the google play store.

I think that yes, you would have to download them again, but if the app itself is connected to an account then the data is still intact.

Hopefully you’re able to get your apps! :+1:

(Note: I had a very old and basic Samsung, so maybe this is different for you!)

Ok, the solution i came up with wasn’t very elegant but it works for Xiaomi phones.

Make sure both phones are updated to the latest version of the operating system.

Go to play store, install all the apps I need by selecting

Manage apps and device
Click on manage
Click on uninstalled
Install all those apps

Then install “mi mover” on both phones

Only tranfer over system apps and settings

This gets the screen layout the same as it was.

I still have to set up/log into each app individually though after that.

Like I said, not very elegant but it works.

Tuna is right. Your linked google account will remember everything from the playstore and redownloading would take just as long as using a third party app to move them. It will also transfer all your data. The only problem i ran into was moving texts over. Which i did in a very sketchy way using a third party app.

I looked into it.

Unfortunately to use Google backups I would need to pay for more Google drive space. I only have 15gb of free Google drive space and my apps and their data come to 25gb.

the apps dont physically save to the cloud, just basically the list of apps so u dont have to pick thru the play store 1 by 1, they still have to be reinstalled.
u can backup your phone in settings which you should do and itll save to google account which you can use when setting up a new phone, there is an option to copy apps and data from old phone when u set up a new android phone, also if u still have the old phone certain phones allow u to do this via a wired connection from one phone to other so u dont have to use internet

my apps take up well over 20gb, google backup only uses 41mb for all my apps, i have never gotten close to using the free 15gb storage

Hmmm… that’s very interesting. I might try that. I have an old phone that I’ve been experimenting with. I’ll see if that works. Thanks @cigarino

Ok, I tried backing up and restoring with that method. It didn’t seem to be much different. Maybe I did something wrong, but it didn’t restore the home screen layout, didn’t restore any of the apps settings, it just installed them again from the play store.
