I’ve read that around 90% of us smoke; I’ve also read that nicotine has been shown to help us with certain cognitive deficits. I was a pack-a-day smoker for a long time, but now I’m up to around a pack and a half per day. I know it’s awful, but I’m having the hardest time cutting back. When I’m at home I often smoke one after the other. Besides concerns about such things as heart disease, it kills me to think of how much money I’m burning up. And this is from someone who takes 450 mg/day of Wellbutrin, a drug that you’d think would help me smoke less or even help me quit. I tried Chantix a couple years ago; it took away the actual nicotine withdrawals, but I still wanted to smoke, mainly just for the enjoyment of the act of smoking itself.
Imagine if they put 50 in a pack
but I still wanted to smoke, mainly just for the enjoyment of the act of smoking itself.
I vape, and could probably switch to nicotine lozenges now, but I like the act of vaping too.
I vape some, but I like smoke so much better. I first tried vaping when I went on Chantix, was using the zero nicotine liquids, but it just didn’t cut it for me.
Never know when to put down the vape
Sometimes. When I am not managing my stress very well, it becomes a compulsion sort of thing and I might smoke a cigarette every 20 minutes while pacing and such. I won’t even be having/relieving nicotine withdrawal, it’s just that stress compulsion. When I am managing my stress well, I don’t smoke nearly as much since it takes several hours before I start to feel withdrawal.
definitely. 40 ciggies a day is way too much. 1. cash 2. health. But I think I’m not desperate yet to quit
Yes I feel I smoke way too much. Some days I feel like I could do nothing more than smoke smoke smoke.
I’ve tried cutting down in the past, but then things kind of went a but haywire in my brain and I picked it right back up again. I even set a quite day but had to give that up because quitting smoking would have just added more stress which would have further contributed to the downward spiral.
It’s a catch isn’t it. I feel like I’m going to die from a smoking related disease. But it does something good for my brain.
I too, used to pace all day from side effects from my medicines I was taking at the time. I think it’s call akenesia or something I forget…it’s a compulsory diagnosis of having to constantly be moving and doing things. It’s very frustrating when I had those symptoms because I wouldn’t even notice I was pacing and my dad and I got into a fight over it when I visited him. He doesn’t understand what I go through yet I feel.
I smoke a pack of newport 100s a day
I also have used smokeless tobacco.
I used a search engine to discover most of the studies used to show schizophrenics are helped by smoking were sponsored by R J Reynolds Company.
I smoked a lot, but I haven’t had any nicotine for greater than two years now. .
Jayster
Yeah akathisia sucks big time. I pace even just when I’m thinking. Repetitive movement sort of thing whenever my mind is focusing on something.
It also could be medication side effects-try bringing it up with your doctor maybe they can help it out?
I can’t take Seroquel or Zyprexa due to akathisia. It’s awfully hard to sleep when you have to twitch something every two seconds, and have to deal with that overall awful feeling, especially since I got myself sober and can’t use alcohol to knock myself out.
I tried giving up smoking cold turkey many times and finally decided to use nicotine gum and now I’m on day 11…good luck stopping smoking. I am free now!
Best of luck to you. I quit cold turkey in 2001 and was nicotine-free for more than three years, but then I made the stupid mistake of starting up again.
4 packs a day from 15. I’m 20 now. Jesus I smoke to much
I smoke two cigarettes in the morning with two cups of coffee. Otherwise I vape.
To my smoking friends: buy them online–much cheaper.
You seem so steady.
What your secret?
