I’m not a christian, nor do I participate in gift exchanges. People know I don’t do xmas, so they don’t buy me gifts and I don’t buy them gifts. Well, sometimes my sister will slip me $50, since she knows I don’t have much.
I hate xmas music, too.
Every time the so-called “holiday season” rolls around I long for it be December 26th and all this crap is over.
I used to be like you and then I moved back to the Midwest. It’s so cold and dark here I longed for something to cheer me up. It started with just Christmas lights. Then I got into decorating and presents. I’m still not into the music though.
I live in the midwest, too, have lived here most of my life. I spent a couple one-year stints in the mid-Atlantic area, too, but the mid-Atlantic area is loaded with more than its share of a-holes lol.
It’s cool that it cheers you up, though; it just straight up annoys me. There’s no getting away from it. I haven’t liked xmas since I was a kid. I’ll go to my sister’s house xmas day, but other than that it’s just another day to me.
I don’t loathe it, I’m just not interested in holidays and I don’t understand why they would waste money on things like decorations and gifts when there are children starving.
I’m an atheist and I like Christmass. I enjoy giving and getting gifts. I only really mind that its starting to take over halloween and thanksgiving which is unacceptable. Those two are my other favorite holidays.
I just try to treat it like another day. If i sat here and thought about my daughter and the wife, and what they are doing xmas day, im liable to reach for the bottle, or possibly go daft with the pills.
My mothers a grumpy old sod when it comes to xmas, as like me she thinks it should only be for the children - and in a way that helps - cos i know my brother isnt the type for mad celebrations either.
If i cant deal with it - ill just up my dose and bugger off to bed, but these past years ive been ok.
I don’t like holiday season either. People all unavailable and going on like mad things. And shops too full. Beaches overcrowded (although I now moved away from beach suburb I was in). Plus it’s summer so its so hot. I prefer quieter times past mid Jan when people available again and things back to normal
I totally understand the reasons why a lot of people don’t like Christmas. It could be poverty, or lack of family, stress from all the commercial crap.
But it gets so cold and dark where I live that Christmas is something to look forward to.
A fellow resident here said bah humbug when I told him merry Christmas last year. I felt like punching him in the face.
When I was a kid all my gifts mostly came from the dollar store. My grandmother even got the grandkids knockoff cabbage patch dolls. Maw maw even bought our Xmas candy from the dollar store. I remember being happy with those things.
Have you ever worked in a place that plays Christmas music constantly during the season? That’s the worst part. As long as I’m not exposed to that I’m okay.
I loathe the greed of the holidays. But I enjoy getting my nieces and nephew a couple small things but everyone else gets an I love you and some time spent together eating and just talking.
Christmas music gives me feel good feelings. Idk how religious I am bc I believe what I want.
